I was playing with my new camera last night, taking pics of the moon and I noticed the funny extra "crescent" as shown below. I'm not too worried as I can avoid it with the right settings or even remove it with PS, but I'm curious as to what causes it.







All pics taken from same spot with full zoom, different crops/resizing produced different moons though

do you have a skylight filter or a UV filter on the camera when those were done? if so remove them and you will lose the green shadow moon thingy

Perhaps a much faster shutter? This was handheld at 200mm
