Has the steep price of Photoshop CS5 prevented you from buying it? Well, one of the blogs I follow posted this the other day. It's a REALLY good deal!!

"A little news for those of you who have dreamt of owning Abobe Photoshop CS5 but couldn̢۪t afford the $699 price tag. How about less than half? Check out the Adobe store̢۪s newly posted price of $299 (this is the Standard, not Extended edition), and if you want Lightroom 3, you can bundle both for under $400.

These are not the upgrade versions either, they are the full versions of the software. You don̢۪t need to have a previous version of the software to qualify for the new price. I̢۪m not sure if this is a short-term sale or a new permanent price, but it̢۪s not showing up on Amazon or B&H, only at the Adobe store. It̢۪s a bit of a shocking drop and I̢۪ll bet they won̢۪t hold this price too long, so you better be quick."

Check it out on Adobe's site HERE.

oooh, may be the push I need to finally get it

Did anyone try this? Seems to be too good to be true

It's at the Adobe website. Of course it's true.

I poked at the Adobe page, and it does show both the regular price (lined out) and the reduced price. I haven't tried clicking through, but I would tend to think this is a legitimate deal, and if so it is a hot one!
Now if they would just discount the upgrade :-P

Unfortunately it won't accept my Canadian address, US only

Do you have to give it an address if you select the downloadable option?
03/14/2011 01:06:03 PM · #8
You do, for credit card authorization. But I have a pre-existing Adobe account with a Canadian address. I used the above link to click through to the sale. I was asked to sign in. When I did, the sale item was added to my cart, and I was able to start the checkout with my Canadian address.

Register at adobe.ca with your Canadian address. Once your account is set up, click the link above. When prompted to log in, you'll be able to purchase that sale item.

Out of an over abundance of caution, I typed in the adobe dot com url instead of following a link. The price I find on it is $699, however there is a note that you can get 30% off of Lightroom when purchased with CS-5.

still not as cheap as if you are a student. sign up for a class and reap the benefits.

If you eyeball the link, you'll see that there is a promotional code embedded in it. Apparently that's why navigating to the product page does not show the expected reduction in price.

If the URL locator in your browser shows that adobe.com is the domain name, the link is safe. Before clicking, you can also hover over the link, and check the status bar of your browser for the location you are about to click to.

Once I was logged in, even going directly to the Adobe store through the main website by typing the site in the URL locator resulted in the sale price. At any rate, there's a promo code in the URL. It's PSCS5UPS and may be useful for some.

PS: I got the promotional price once logged in even by going to adobe.ca, the Canadian site.

Got it, thanks!! Definitely genuine. And about 3x cheaper than buying in Australia! We get badly hit with Adobe marketing that puts up the US price by over 30% when converted into Australian dollars! The full cost at Adobe Australia store is $AUD1,168 (with 10% GST) = 1,178.82 USD (today at xe.com) compared with $US 699 here. Shocking, isn't it?!

Apple is doing the same thing. I was thinking about getting an Ipad here as well. Any seen good specials? Is Ipad2 worth the price difference?

If you go directly to the site then choose store and then to CS5 it has the 299 price

This is just a smokin' deal for anyone that does not qualify for an upgrade or a student discount...
03/14/2011 02:32:13 PM · #16
And you can still combine it with 30% discounted off Lightroom. Lightroom with CS5 is the best workflow combination (although you may find yourself mostly using Lightroom).

I already got Lightroom and like it very much but I am planning to do some fancy stuff with layers :)

I was getting my masters degree & took advantage of the student discount (I think I paid $195 for the extended version of CS4). I would have been ticked off if I spent $800. :o)

I agree about the CS5/LR3 combination. For my real artsy stuff I almost always run it through Photoshop (I like the USM and external noise filter much better) but for basic family shots or something, LR pretty much does the job... and QUICK. It's also great for sharing with other sites (smugmug, flickr, facebook, etc).

Bought it last night, now I have to figure out how to use it lol. Was finally getting the grasp of elements. I figured the price was too good to pass on and this will last for years and now I can upgrade to newer versions.

Boo, still £640.90 in the UK (that's the equivalent of US $1,032), and it won't let me purchase it through the US site. :((( Adobe sucks - even if they do make some amazing software.

I upgraded from Elements to CS4 (now CS5) just a few years ago after using Elements for about 2 years. I think you'll find it's a super easy transition. Kelby Training has some great intro to Photoshop classes (and of course more advanced ones). You can either sign up for a year or just go month to month until you watch all of the classes you're interested in (it's about $20/month... very worth it in my opinion). Having said that, I'm anxiously waiting for their ipad app that they've been promising so I can watch all of their videos on the go.

Yeah I have had my eye on his training just wasn't a real need before now. Now I will likely do the month to month stuff.

Thats exactly what I did about a year ago. I think I had it for about 3 months & watched all of the ones I wanted. Now, a few really good ones came out but I'm holding off for the ipad app.

They're quoting me US $729 (upgrade from Elements 7) in South Africa. After using the trial for a month I was just starting to enjoy the better version of ACR and better adjustment layers, but I'm still trying to convince myself it's worth spending that much. I really want Nik's HDR program and the only other way to use that is to buy Lightroom, which I didn't really like that much.

I got doubly lucky on this one. Adobe sent me an upgrade email in May and then an apology as CS5 alone did not qualify for the upgrade. Few weeks later I got another email saying as compensation for the error they are mailing to me a FREE boxed version of CS 5.5 Extended!! It took some doing to get it from the hotel in Whistler (I had to use a Canadian address where I stayed in March to use this special offer) but I am now a proud owner of CS5 Extended for $Australian 324 !!! (Adobe official price for CS5 Extended here is a whopping $1,671 !!!)

Many thanks to the OP tammster to posting this thread Louis for suggesting how to get it !!
