A request for feedback please.
My entry for the half challenge did not do particuarly well and received no comments which has left me wondering what was up with the image. I wasn't expecting great things from the image, and i wasn't expecting it to score as low either.
If the feedback is brutally honest i dont mind it would be nice to know from a development point of view. Any takers?

I gave it a 6.
I realize you were trying show half of the building but for me it was a full front view. The only thing, IMHO that was half was the profile view of the statue. Also maybe the focus is just the slightest bit off.
Don't know if that's what others saw or not. |

I gave it a 5. Without your title I'd never know that it was half of a building or not. When you have half a face or half a flower you know that the other half is there but just not shown. |

when i entered i did consider the fact that there may be voters out there who did not know what the whole building looked like. I wanted to go with something other than half a face etc. Took a risk which didn't pay off. I think the statue could have been cropped out which may have helped slightly. |

I'm gonna hijack a little here, please forgive me Jon_H...
My half entry did surpisingly poorly as well, I thought, given that this is a view of about 1/2 downtown and it has 1/2 of a causeway in the foreground, that it should have done decent, but it would appear that most didn't see this as meeting the challenge, anyone care to offer up some thoughts as to why?

As for Jon_H's image, I think just the rear-half of the horse would have been nice.... |

I would have ordinarily given your image around an 8-9 but i didnt know what downtown Miami looked like and to me it looked like the whole of downtown. not that my image is anyway as good as your entry but it could be we have both lost the voters due to the fact that the subject was not clear enough. |

i didnt vote in the half challenge, but i would have score both of these images low, mainly becuase its not clear that they depict "half".
you both needed to make a more creative effort. I didnt enter this challenge, but i could have entered two similar shots, and i would not have expected a good score becuase of it.
i dont mean to come off as brash, but thats criticism. If you want good scores you have a make a solid effort to meet the challenge. |

Corey, I have to echo what John is saying on this. For me it was a cityscape, I got no idea what Miami looks like, although it is an amazing image it wasn't (for me anyway) within the scope of the challenge. |

For both of the photo's asking for feedback:
The selection of subjects was a poor choice to express the topic of the challenge. Though technically they were half of your subject, and they were both very good photo's and well executed, the subject matter itself was the real problem. It didn't communicate the topic of the challenge well enough. |

Thanks to all of you for confirming my suspicions, that the 1/2 causeway and (really) 1/2 downtown just weren't quite obviously 1/2 enough... Well, actually, it would appear that they were almost 1/2 enough... =\
LOL... *shrug* I still like the image, and that's what I really care about, besides now I can point to this image as an example of a pretty solid image that scored really poorly.. :) |

I think for both images unless you know the area it is difficult to know that this is half of something. With Jon_H I also felt the crop was off, The statue on the left is too close to the edge. Both photos received a 5 from me. Not because I thought the quality was bad, but because they were both DNMC's to me. In a different challenge I think they both would have scored much higher. |

I have to agree but having looked at the previous challenge and noting how many half faces there were i honestly thought going with something different was sort of being creative. i suppose thats what it is all about doing something different can work for you or against you. |
