LOL! Well that won't happen again, at least until I replace the lens my granddaughter broke this week. All I have left is my crappy Tamron. I might have found a replacement on craigslist if I can come up with the cash on time before someone else gets it. |

Congratulations Kelli. I think we all got a lot of pleasure in seeing you come through.
You get congrats too, Jeb, even if you are a big hitter these days - you certainly deserve some kudos for that alone and it's been pretty to watch (ok, maybe not all the individual tantrums, but you know what I mean).
So the brief renaissance of OObies and Yappies?
I got this comment on from jomari
Great shot. Fascinating how the snow on the cars indicates the relative time they have been there. I like the blurry two-legged dog and his person - it looks like they are not going to waste too much time on walkies in the cold.
I particularly liked the 'two legged dog and his person'
Then again, a couple of others pointed out that the dog and person do nothing for the purely pictorial good of the image, only for literary connotations (and they're right).
So what makes the Yappie nominee? Perspicacity? Humour? The greater good? Yes, that'd be it.
Carry on.

The Sprog just finished his first challenge.
He'd love some comments and constructive criticism. |

Thanks Deb and Peter, for the Sprog comments. He comes back to me (from his Dad) this afternoon, so I can't wait for him to see his comments. |

Left a comment -- I used a few "big words" but I think he'll understand, or at least enlarge his vocabulary. If he's disappointed in his score, you might point out to him that I have about 25 last-place finishes ... |

Commented to the Sprog also.
And I mkay's well renew my acquaintance with this place, since I am truly and genuinely in a state of suckage, score-wise, of late.
Hiya, folks!

Thanks for the comments for the Sprog, everyone! He really appreciated them. And he's decided he's here to explore photography, not get high scores. He is the coolest kid ever. |

Tell the Sprog he's one most excellent fellow. Not only does he have the coolest mom on the planet, and the best hair of any kid I've ever seen, but a great sense of adventure! He'll go far! |

On another note, posting here because I don't want to start some political crap in the main boards and you folks are good people. Worth a read:
Sacrifice
I know most of you DO know someone who's served in the military (if no one else, you kinda know me, and Cory, and a few others here) but there are a lot of Americans (apologies to our overseas brethren here) who do not. A lot to be said about the widening divide of those who will do, and those will stand back and say "better you than me, but thanks!"
My heart breaks for the General. What a job he has. What a wise man, too. |

Yes, I read this when you posted it on facebook. I felt so sorry for him and his family. And I get what he's saying. This part says it all... Later, he clarified in an interview that he is opposed to indifference, not dissent. "I just think if you are against the war, you should somehow try to change it," he said. "Fight to bring us home."
We had a friend come spend two days with us last week. He's back in Afghanistan now. |

I also don't envy General Petreus, who yesterday had to apologize for the US/NATO forces "accidentally" killing eight Afghani kids who were out collecting firewood.
As little we consider the sacrifices made by our military, I believe we think even less about the manifold sacrifice made by the innocents caught in the crossfire.
It's always the old who lead us to the wars
Always the young to fall
Now look at all we've won with the saber and the gun
Tell me, is it worth it all?

Toggling about my PB at the moment. Sometimes it's above, sometimes it's below. Just scoring a decent 5 is far better for your mood. Guess I have a nervous week until rollover, unless there's a dramatic change in the score (139 votes given). |
