At the moment I have a konica kd-25 digital camera and I'm looking for a cheap second hand manual slr to play around with. I am on a really tight budget so it needs to be the kind of camera that is low priced to begin with.
Any suggestions. I see a lot of zenits around but I'm a little suspicious of their quality. |

I still have an old Praktica Super TL 1000, they come really cheap on e-bay and just keep on functioning. Fully manual, only the light meter has a battery (lasts for many many years), but the camera will function without battery as well. Maybe not the highest quality but great to learn and play around with.

| go for a nikon or canon , as if you buy some lenses you might use with a Dslr that you will buy in future |

| Pentax K1000,, I've had mine for over 25 years and it stills works like the day I bought it!! and now with the *ist D available my lenses can go digital, when I can afford it. |

I still use my Minolta SR-1 that I got from my Mother who bought it about forty years ago. Dosen't even have a light meter in it. I saw one at a garage sale last fall for $5.

| Pentax ES , You can get a good one on ebay for under $150.00.It has a great metering system & the SMC Takumar lenses are not only inexpensive now but great glass . You can also buy adapters for them to fit Canon , even the D-10 . It's a great time to buy old film cameras & lenses right now . Good Luck ! |

| I picked up an EOS-650 for $65 on eBay a couple of months ago, for backup to my 10D. It's in great shape, has many of the auto features + light meter found in newer EOS cameras, and will work with all of my EF lenses. As has been mentioned recently in another post on DPC, the Canon EF 50mm/f1.8 lens is a real bargain at about $70. So for less than $150 you could have a very good start on a Canon system. |
