For the little experience that I got so far, I start scoring quite high and with 2 or 3 lovely comments right after voting begins. And just as my hopes go up ... it goes pretty much downhill. Above 5.5 but not at 6. I am not sure on what to understand of this pattern yet. Or if there is a real, general pattern or just how my photos inspire the majority. Do the "die hard" people vote first? In time I hope to get a feeling of general reaction to my photos. I am still so new. I appreciate any comments.

a 5.5 would be a new PB for you. Anytime that happens it's a good thing. I've seen the patterns all over the place. Starts high then goes down or vice versa. I had one that was under 6 after 20 votes and finished above 7. Usually after 35 votes or so, the score doesn't move more than .2 in either direction, but that can be the difference between a ribbon and not finishing in the top 20.

what is the deal with some people's images being voted on 57 times, and others only 51? mine is down at 50 votes at the moment.

Ah, thank you David. I am not sure about the math involved, but what you said makes sense. (What's a PB?) The first 35 votes give the trend. Interesting. That's what I figured out in my case. So far, I am quite surprised by the first 3 places of the last challenges.

Surprised in what way?

Yeah, some people "cherry pick" their votes. It's not the best aspect of DPC, but it's part of the well established protocol. When enough people vote, a few tactical voters don't make a significant difference. Best to roll with the punches and realize this is not "life and death". And, never assume a low vote means you are not a good photographer. Sometimes it means you are a very good photographer who has attracted a nefarious vote. In general, at DPC, the good people vastly overwhelm the nefarious ones.

Busy trying to comment on the photo's in this challenge, and realized commenting is tiring! I've only managed to comment on 17 so far, and it's exhausting. It really forces you to concentrate on what's good about that picture, very mentally exhausting!

But in all honesty, it makes one appreciate the photo's so much more than the superficial level one sometimes sees when just voting and moving on.

Big drop in a short period of time. I may actually have to post this one after the challenge to find out what's wrong. I'm confused!

Pondering a self-dq... I guess some people just don't see how a squeegee and a jar of peanut butter are relevant to this challenge.

Thanks, Gary. You were spot on with your comment on my entry.
I can sympathize with tiredness. I am absolutely amazed by the few people who comment on all entries with full sentences like for example, Bohemkaand Tanguera. You are doing very well!

From my 2 months at DPC those with higher scores very rarely post them during voting. So even if your score is the highest of these shown here there may be 20 or more higher scoring who are sitting there quietly on their hands. Like me, for example.. ;)

Bah, my first sub 4 since last September.
I should have known better. Thats it, no more shooting outside my comfort zone. Either its a Nature shot/contains a living being, or its not being entered in challenges.

Luckily, comments don't reflect the score :).

was getting hopeful yesterday, made it up to 5.833, but got hit by a 1 and a bunch of 4s.

Ah well, such are the vicissitudes...

7 comments is quite cool, though!

Question: do you think people are more likely to comment on photos that are on the upper end or the lower end of the range. I suspect the former, bur curious what everyone elses thoughts are.
