I am looking for a camera for macro shooting. I have read about the 1cm macro lens of the Nikon Coolpix 5400. ¿Do you kmow similar cameras?. I would like to measure things of 1mm of size (then a resolution of 0.1 mm is needed). My budget is limited to 1000$ approximately. |

You'll need to look for a a microscope with an attachment for your digital camera.
For example:
You can build your own
or
buy one here
You will not be able to get a field of view of 1mm with a camera lens, and much less 0.1mm and hand held to boot.
When they say 1cm on a macro lens they usually mean you can focus as close as 1cm of the subject. This still doesn't mean you will have a subject 1cm wide take up all of your frame. I can actually get closer macros (at 1:1 reproduction ratios) with my Sigma 105mm Macro lens while being 12 inches away from the subject.
My reversed lens set-up lets me get field of view of 11mm wide (as opposed to 22.5mm with just the Sigma 105mm), but I have to get 2 to 3 inches from the subject.

Just had a look at the handbook for my Fuji s602z and it has two macro settings. The "Super Macro" quotes 1cm to 20 cm as it`s range.

Yeh I agree about the S602Z - it is amazing for macro shooting.

Olympus C-4000Z is good at Macro, too, in Super Macro mode it can take photos from 2 cm. Though I am not sure whether it's purchased, mine was one of the last ones in my country in December.

I would strongly suggest looking at the Nikon 4500. Closest focus is approx. 1cm at mid-zoom, and the frame coverage at that setting is about 17mm.
That relates to a linear resolution of about 0.008mm, or approx. 125 px/mm.
Price is around $460-500. The split body helps with taking macro shots in close quarters. The small (28mm dia) lens thread also makes this camera ideal for mating to a microscope eyepiece if required.
I have used a Nikon 995 for this type of work with great success. the 4500 is a 4Mpx update of the 3Mpx 995.
Happy measuring!

I've owned several of the Coolpix line and they all have terrific macro capabilities and should all be well within your price range. I'd highly recommend the 5400 - I just got the 8700 on ebay this month for $899 - well below retail, brand new, and so far I'm thrilled with its macro functions. That Nikkor glass is just great stuff.
