Maybe you should work off that excess energy. You and Penny can go out to lunch, and I'm sure someone else here will watch for the mailman.

"no really, there was no mail today!"

Alright, here we GO!

Gonna have to pay a LOT of attention to the precise point of focus with this beast...

Drat! He already beat me with his seagull -- now he's going after the little ones, too!

When I was looking for a home for this lens and Robert answered I knew I was sending it to a very good home.

I hope you and Penny enjoy this lens as much as I did;)

There's a HUGE misunderstanding going on here :-) I never said I wasn't gonna hand-hold it, or even that I was worried about it: I'd shot with one of these before, when I happened to be alongside a fellow Canonneer who had one mounted. No, all I said, in response to a question, was that Penny and I bot have strong tripods.

The bird shot is hand-held. I have a test shot inside the house, at 400mm and hand-held at 1/10 of a second, that is adequately sharp. REALLY good IS... And I agree, it's not all that heavy, not a heck of a lot heavier than the 70-200 f/4L if it comes to that.

I'm well-satisfied thus far. The lens is REALLY clean (bless you, Maggye!), seems to be in alignment and on-focus. The push-pull will take some getting used to, particularly the variable damping mechanism, but I had a push-pull way back in the day, and I liked it then, for action, so... I liekd being able to zoom and focus in a single motion.

Good glass! Good vibes all around!

Gawd, I love this thing... Here's 400mm, f/5.6 (wide open at that end), unprocessed and uncropped original straight from ACR. Focus was set on the cherub's mouth, and seems to be spot-on. Shallow DOF is fantastic, look at the toes dropping OOF... And oh, yes: hand-held :-)

Whatta terrific lens!
