What is the best way to get a hidden hit counter on a website? How would I be able to see it? I've tried some free ones online and must be missing something. I don't know where to go to see the hits. Also, who can I trust online with html codes that are given to me. Could malicious software be attached to my computer through html code? Like spyware.

Google Analytics.

Also, if you have a website hosted by GoDaddy, you can get comprehensive, free stats.

I do have godaddy, I need to check into that. Is it easy for a novice to use?

Very easy. All you have to do is append /stats to your url. So if your website is www.something.com, just makes it www.something.com/stats and you will have all your godaddy collected stats.
