I've never been much of a wide lens user. Even back in 35mm days I rarely used anything wider than 50mm. Consequently I was somewhat nervous about parting with my hard-earned a couple of weeks ago when I purchased the Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6. But guess what? I love it! Whilst I didn't intentionally set out to do so, I've just realised that all 3 entries I currently have submitted (Free Study, 100 Years Old, Wheels) were taken with this lens. None of these shots are 'landscape-y', but none of them could have been made with any of my other lenses (because I needed to be up close to the subjects). In all likelihood all 3 entries will tank and I'll never want to use the lens again, but for now at least the lens has opened up a whole new style of photography for me and I'm having lots of fun.
So, how often do others use ultra-wides? |

| I use an ultra-wide lense almost daily for real-estate photograpy (16mm on a FF camera which is equivalent to 10mm on DSLR's with 1.6 crop factor). I also use a fish eye lens for panoramic 360's in homes. Other than that I seldom use ultra wide. |

Congrats on the new lens! I've got the Sigma 12-24mm and I'd guess I use it at least 50% of the time. I love the perspective, I do like landscape shots, and to be honest it's most often attached to my body because it fits in the bag best that way (more accurately the lens doesn't really fit in the bag that well separately).
Enjoy it. They're a lot of fun. |

| I'm sorta the opposite of you... I started using the Sigma a ton initially but have toned it down in recent use. A lot of that is because I've just really enjoyed my 85 as well as the 150 macro and 28-70 I picked up earlier this year as of late. But I will admit that the 10-20 is just really fun to use generally. I take it on most of my backcountry ventures, just for the need to capture the vastness alone. I like the sense of being small it gives me, and I also enjoy the crazy perspectives I can get up close to things. |

| I don't use my Sigma 10-20mm as much as I would like because I don't carry spare lenses around and I often worry that I'm going to miss something special by not being able to get close enough, but it really is my favourite lens. I didn't manage to break through the 6 barrier last year, but my highest score here was taken with that lens. I'm still longing for a fish-eye as well, but that will have to wait. |

I used to use my Sigma 12-24 quite a bit, but then I got the 15-85, and well... The 3mm extra doesn't really count for enough to make me usually want to switch (that 15-85 is really nice optically)...
But... Just this weekend I was trying to take some photos, and I NEEDED that extra bit of width (damn I wish I had a FF 5D with me), so the 12 went on.
So, in short, I use my 15mm quite a bit, my 12 has been somewhat mothballed in anticipation of a 5DmkII at some point in the future. |

Never. But my brother gave me an 11-18 lens on Sunday (not certain about the range here). Haven't used it yet.

| I have the Tokina 11-16mm and find that I use it about 30% of the time. I like the perspective and close focusing ability. I've used it on several challenge entries. Definitely worth having in the bag to me. |

I like strong perspectives, so my 10-24mm Tammy has become my favorite lens. It's also my sharpest lens, the detail this thing can pull in is wonderful.

The ultra-wide's my walkaround lens, actually. Has been for a long time. 10-22mm when I used the 20D, 17-40mm now I'm using the 5D with full-frame sensor. I had a brief flirtation with the 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro when I got it, and it lived on the camera instead of the 17-40mm, but once the new wore off I went back to situational shooting with that one, and the 17-40 took up residence again. It just suits the way I see, I guess.
