same thing...sigh
random thumbnails...won't open in Photo Viewer (NEF Files)
guess I will have to pay for a 3rd party vendor...sigh, just don't get why it quit working all of a sudden...at least I can still open my files in LR...what the real pain is I can't "preview" my photos and pick only the ones that I want...double sigh maybe I should start a ticket with MS Windows??? |

| I would check into your windows updates and look for an update that installed around the time the problem started happening. Once you find one or a few that look like they could be the problem remove them and see if it fixes your issue. If not do a windows update to reinstall the updates you removed. |

Was really hoping the reinstall would work - Did you uninstall the full file? Does your computer regularly update weekly - maybe something in the updates is messing with a line or two in the program such that it is now causing the problem you are experiencing.
Starting a ticket with MS Windows certainly can't hurt. Good Luck. |

If you know the date when it stopped working (or just before) you can use the system restore function to return Windows to it's state at that time... Just a thought...

good suggestion...we have looked at our updates and will delete all that happened on the 11th of this month (the last time that I know I used my thumbnails for sure) and see what that does...if not we'll probably system restore...sigh |

The built-in system restore - NOT REINSTALL - can just put back the libraries (driver files) from a previous date - usually every third time or so Windows boots it makes an image of the system files as it is running - you can usually get to it from the control panel or system panel - then you won't have to reinstall programs, etc... just put the working windows files back in place.

they did this...restored this afternoon...no go...from our reading/exploring - Windows 7 - Windows Photo Viewer 64bit will not work with my Nikon Codec files anymore...Nikon does not at present nor in the future is planning on providing the Codec system for free to it's customers...I/We will have to use a 3rd party vendor....
So here is my new questions - What third party vendors do you use/have on your Windows 7 64 bit systems to view your pictures on your drives to see/view all your thumbnails in Windows Explorer? I can view my pictures in LR3 but I can't select certain pictures and target those on Windows Explorer. Should I buy a 3rd party vendor so I can see my thumbnail on Windows Explorer or should I just use my LR3? |

| ok, here is what we did...we got a 3rd party program to be able to view all my thumbnails and view larger views of those thumbnails...can't believe that Nikon is NOT going to write a program for 64 bit Windows7 Explorer.... |
