THis is an internet gaming site I've been devoting most of my time to lately. I thought it was time I shared> It's in closed beta but you can still see the site, you just cant signup and see the posts and downloads and such. Feedback. If you find any bugs, let me know! :D

Not going to jump through the hoops of getting a login. :)
Sorry man, but I just don't care enough to bother. |

The whole thing feels like it's about to collapse under its own weight.
First I got a JavaScript error:
Sorry, but the following error occured [sic]:
TypeError: Object doesn't support this property or method.
Then some graphics crawled on to a screen that had no scrollbars.
I tried clicking on something and got, in barely legible text, a message about Public Registration being closed.
What little I saw had some nice graphics, but what exactly are you serving up? Who's your audience? It's unclear what your aiming to present, and in any case, it's restricted and unnavigable.

Choosing to ignore a browser that has close to 50% of the market, while supporting one that has 2%, is IMHO a bit... juvenile. Not supporting older browsers I can understand.
Also, run the page through the HTML Validator at w3.org. Fixing those errors might make the page more responsive, it's quite sluggish now.

Got the same error on an iPad (Safari).
Even with the code you have given I can't be bothered to register - surfing is a click thing, not a typing thing.
I think the secret is to design a site that requires very little effort to navigate.
Why would you want people to register? To create identities for forums?? |

I promise you the site will soon have support for all major browsers but Internet Explorer. TO get it too ork I'd have to completely discard major functionality, the browser is ver broken. In no way is that a juvenile decision. Many in the web design community have chose to exclude support. Here's a blog about it:
//free-the-web.posterous.com/
Anyone looking for some good reading material:
//www.lockergnome.com/news/2004/06/15/why-you-should-dump-internet-explorer/
I'll also note that when Internet Explorer 9 comes out, I'll provide support. Atm im not willing to completely get rid of half of the sites functionality, and use deprecated html tags and php functions just for some IE support.
Also, fixing the jquery bug now. DIdn't get it in safari or chrome.

Sorry if I sound like an ass, but if you are just going to shoot peoples thoughts down, then, well, why bother asking? Second- go to any type of marketing/pr school- they will tell you- make yourself understandable by the lowest intelligence of people possible. I work for newspapers- they say to write for those with a fifth grade reading level- why? Because, unfortunately, that is where your biggest market is. Same with IE. I use firefox. Cant stand IE. BUT, to ignore such a large piece of the pie is arrogant and ignorant.
Honestly, I hope your website does well, but I, like many others have voiced so far, think you better look at a bit different of an approach. |
