It is 2011 â€Â¦

People live longer than before,
but the stuff we buy:
breaks quicker and goes obsolete faster.

I'm trying to think of something that goes against this theory.
Can anyone think of a product that lasts longer than a similar product you might have purchased 30 years ago?

Sarcastic and wise-ass responses welcome. =D

Batteries / Rechargable batteries, especially the Eneloop!

Ahh, very good.
I love those - everyone should use the rechargeables.

I thought of another one:
Foaming / concentrated soap: so much better than trying to use a slimy bar =D

Slippers, 30 years ago they wore out really quickly, now they last months. Perhaps they are better made or probably I move around less:))

cars. 100,000 miles used to be a major milestone.

You beat me to it. It's miraculous how reliable cars and trucks have become.

On the downside, we no longer can fix 'em ourselves when they break...

True â€Â¦ but I really would like to have a car that wouldn't need a new exhaust every 3 years â€Â¦
I suppose the answer comes in the form of a Nissan Leaf â€Â¦?

stationery. Since I use email, my stationery lasts a lot longer than it used to!

This is a good point, but it doesn't just go for cars. Tvs, appliances, etc are all made with stuff that can't be easily fixed. Even many toys can't be fixed as easily in the past.

Cars? Depends on who made 'em.

Mine is 22 years old, 250.00 miles. Looks and runs like new.
There's someone stateside, same brand of car, 1966, with 1.7 mn miles on it.
