| Just looked and it's $200, not that I care, as Apple has long abandoned their PowerPC users, the platform they trumpeted to the skies just months before they made us irrelevant. Should have been a class action over that one. |

The new Mac App store opened today. By "opened", I mean an operating system upgrade placed the Mac App store on my dock. It's very handy.
Indeed, Aperture 3.1.1 is available for $79.99. The Apple store still sells this for $199. That is a fairly interesting strategy. It will drive customers to the Mac App Store, which requires SnowLeopard OS 10.6.6. To bohemka's point, this will force equipment upgrades. The recent added features and upgrades to Aperture 3.1.1 have been very impressive.

Wow.
I just used the app store to download MindNode. Wow.
It was installed before I could blink. 2 secs max.
Unbelievable.

| Glad I spotted this thread, I may not have noticed until the computer told me there was an upgrade available. It has to be an improvement I thinkf. |

| An improvement to drive upgrades. A slippery slope. To be honest I think I'm done with Apple. |

I hear you.
Often I've noticed that they will have new products or updated products released in the middle of January. Why? - because the 14 day return policy after Christmas just expired.
Their actions are soul-less and obviously have nothing but the company's interests in mind. But I honestly don't think you will find any tech product company that is any better â€Â¦ it is just part of what happens when you are dealing with a corporation.

Since they haven't made PPC Macs since January 2006 the upgrade "drive" should be a pretty short trip.
2 years on a WinTel machine is about the most you can expect these days.
Plus, you don't HAVE to use the App store. My sister and parents still have PPC Macs. Pretty good ROI, IMHO. |
