I thought from the title, you were asking us to hate you. Intriguing.

I don't need to ask people.

well my portrait is like that since the beginning, it struggles to grow with 0.01 every vote but just when it's about to go above 6 someone comes and pushes it down with 0.3 or so. Anyways monkeys seem to like mine too or maybe they are just amazed by the amount of comments. I know I am :)

true ... I was actually pretty excited about my parallel lines submission ... oh well. Like most of my other shots, I'll be somewhere in the middle of the pack (5.4ish so far).

I have a theory that members at this site don't like abstract stuff as much as concrete stuff. I think my submission looks pretty cool, but most people won't be able to tell what it is, so it gets voted down.

Or ... I'm wrong and it just sucks :)

My theory is that DPCers who vote in challenges in which they have a submission subconciously vote down anything they feel might fare better than theirs... (Of course, I'm an exception ...:-)

I think there are some that are always afraid of something different. If you submit something unusual there will be some that will apreciate your imagination but you will always be a target for the purists. I'm sure if I would put my portrait in a room with all the people who voted and commented it there is a chance for a huge fight to start there. I have all those 36 comments allready and I'm so proud of the controvercy that alone makes me feel probably better than a ribbon. I will never expect a ribbon with a picture that is not ordinary stock photography on this site. Here stuff seem to be judged more about tehnicality and less about artistic impression. Those people would of probably shoot Picaso for painting people with square heads, or would probably comment Rembrandt as "too blury". People with the expensive dslr's will always have the best chance no matter what they shoot.

Don't shoot it's just how I feel not complaining or anything besides it's a quite expected thing when users vote and there is no qualified jury or something like that.

To address your first point about 'artistic' images - most people define crap images as artistic, hence why they don't do so well. It's not becasue people like to see perfection, it's more like they simply want to see good pictures.

As for DSLR users having "the best chance", why do you think that? I can't see that it makes any difference at all. My biggest award was won by using a 2MP Fuji 2800z, and out of 8 magazines that have published my work, 7 of them used images taken with the Fuji.
