I have been importing pictures from my cf cards into aperture 3 and for the life of me, I CANNOT find these files...
Sure, they exist when I open aperture but when I want to open some pics in photoshop or photomatix, I can't find the files anywhere on my iMac...
HELP!!
I switched about 3 months ago from a pc to a mac so if this is a mac newbie question, I apologize... I am just as frustrated as hell here... |

go to Boot drive->Users->your user name->Pictures
You'll see a file called "Aperture Library"
Right click or Control click on it and choose "Show Package Contents"
You originals ore in a folder called "Masters"
You can also choose the images you want in the Aperture finder and export copies to another folder.

| Or if you let Aperture know that you have an external editor you can round-trip images to Photoshop, it creates a duplicate version, opens Photoshop and then receives it back seamlessly when you save it in Photoshop. |

Default is to store them in the aperture library file. You can change this with a parameter setting.

| It's like iPhoto: the folder structure is hidden in a single "library" file to protect the contents. Look in your "Pictures" folder for something called Aperture Library. Right-click (or control-click) on that and choose "Show package contents" from the pop-up menu to see your projects. Click on one of those and Show package contents again to see the deeper structure. DO NOT alter or move any of these files or you could screw up your Aperture library. You don't have to bother with any of that to work with pics in another application, though. Just choose "Edit with External Editor" from the Images menu (you set the default editor in Aperture's preferences). |

No problem.
The Masters folder is the folder I copy over to an external drive and store off site in case of a total loss of computer and backup drive.
I use Time Machine for regular backups, but I backup all the originals and take that drive to the office. |
