Seems that many cameras are doing video now.
What say we do a video Free Study with a 30 second time limit.
Ofcourse DPC standards of excellence will prevail :)

Also, stop motion photography could also be utilized for those without direct video capture.

Assuming there were 200 entries, at 30 seconds per it would take you a while to view them all...wouldn't it.

Yeah, but would we get that many?
But, I see the point... a shorter time frame could be selected. 20 seconds cuts it by a third.

Ooh, I just made an 18 second video about one of my new toys.
<--- ETA... on my Samsung WB2000 of course. :-)

I could make a 20 second long rant about how stupid the voters are! ;-) |

Sounds like an interesting side challenge, but for a regular challenge it doesn't do anything for me.
If there are 200 challenges, it would be way too long to wade through the transfer times and then viewing many of them more than once.
If there aren't many entries, what's the point? |

It would gobble up a lot of space on the server compared to the current 300kb per entry for still shots.
If done as a side challenge, the vids could be uploaded to Youtube or another vid hosting site, and linked from the S C thread.
The cam I am now using has 1920 x 1080 px HD, which would be a big file, even at only 20 sec. It can also shoot reduced quality vid in steps down to 640 x 424 px.
I haven't looked, but I think that I remember seeing a thread about posting our DPC member vids to a linked site.

Just what would constitute a valid number of entries in your book... Take a quick look at some of the entries lately, there are quite a few where entries were rather sparse.

Sure they did... However, that's not why I said what I said. I HATE the idea of picture cameras have video option. I am not against to have a Video FS.
What's next, including a can opener to cameras and have a "Can FS"?
Here is why I HATE the idea, I think video option on a Picture camera downgrades Photography... It is called "Photography" not "Videography"... You know why all those companies adding extra SH..T in the cameras, because they want to sell cameras, they don't care about photography too much, do they? After all, someone's watch is taking 5Mpix photos now... with IS built in.
I believe (and that's why these posts here for, so you know what "I" think as well), walking around with 1Ds Mark IV and taking birthday videos of a kid, because there are no other video cameras available, disrespect to photography itself... it looks pretty dumb too by the way.
...am I the only one thinking like this, so be it. |
