Quick anecdotal update to this story: I had gotten an email that said they had to cut my photo from the final book edit awhile back, so I thought nothing more of it. Then last week, my son was visiting his girlfriend at her college up north and they went to the bookstore together and were flipping through the newly released "Awkward Pet Photos" book and they ran across my photo and he said "That looks like Kirby", then he read the caption, which confirmed it was Kirby and he realized it was my pic and they were both cracking up. He didn't know it had had been published. Neither did I. :)
eta: since we're on the subject, Post your own awkward pet photos here (but they better be awkward!)
