Thanks Art, and I would like to thank the Academy for this wonderful, repaired trophy, and all the DPC members who find this thread beneath them. Lets Party! |

I'm back.
Since Kuratowski allows for edge contraction, it's easy to see that removing the edge disjoint "spokes" of the Petersen graph, and merging the vertices to which they are incident, produces K5. Therefore K5 is a minor of the Petersen graph, and the Petersen graph is not planar.
According to Chartrand, a subdivision of K(3,3) is a subgraph of the Petersen graph. I wonder now if K(3,3) is a minor of the Petersen graph. I'm also curious to know if there are any interesting results between the theorems of Wagner and Kuratowski. |

*grabs some of Petersen's C4 and inserts it where the sun is shining when he's bent over* KA-BOOM! And that was the very last we EVER heard of him or his nerdy experiments. |

As punishment they can go and live out their days in the 'Last loses' thread. |

Let it also hereby be known that Art Roflmao lost his Knighthood after excessive village burning. Trollman was knighted instead and awarded the prize.
ETA: I win!

I'm happy to be described as a numb nut, but I am more commonly known as Wingnut ...still determined to win though :)

It's not whether you win or lose, it's that I win. and I do. Yes I do. Yes he does. Yes I do. Fa la la la la, la la la la. |

You would win but then everyone would want to congratulate you...which means you don't win anymore. Its tough having millions of adoring fans isn't it? :)

So what you're saying basically is that I win. Excellent! |

I sense some dissent in the group.
Anyway, I was able to show today that there exists a subgraph of the Petersen graph that is a proper (nontrivial) subdivision of K(3,3). It's actually much simpler to show that the Petersen graph is nonplanar using Wagner, but this result appeals to Kuratowski.
It will be much easier to show using a diagram. I will prepare a graphic and post it later. Unlesss someone has one of their own to share. |
