I just got Lumiquest LTP in mail.

Comparison shots for others who might be curious on results..
Both shots are straight out of the camera - flash was pretty much at the same place on camera left, handheld.

So far..
> I like the soft shadows!
> Color cast is bad, maybe its because I moved a little between shots.. so more comparison in better controlled environment to follow!

Looks pretty good as far as softening the shadows. How close was the flash to the subject in the test shot?

Yeah not bad for $45 - always wanted to DIY .. but never really got to doing it!

Flash was less than 1.5 feet from the subject in both shots.

I imagine you would lose most of the effectiveness of it if you go further away but still a nice little addition to a flash for close up stuff.

It looks like there was some softening with the Lumiquest, but there is more difference in the white balance between the two than anything else. Did you have any of the in-camera retouching presets turned on? Maybe you could try the test again with the same preset color temperature for both shots.

Yeah, WB should not change between shots... I'd be surprised if a Lumiquest product was causing such a change. What was flash power and how much are you losing?
Would you be willing to kill the ambient more in your next shot to better illustrate the light quality of the flash and not the environment?
