Please try not to get too discouraged. You just may have had something in mind that voters just don't see. I hope you get some good comments.

How do you find out how many votes your image has part way through the vote? |

My Home>My Preferences> My Scores(Check box)>Save
and you should see it update every hour on the title page under the dpchallenge logo at the top left. One of the benefits of joining is updating anytime you want.

Was at 6.15 when I checked before leaving for work - am now at work and have already dropped to 6.04 having received three more votes.
Ah well.... I expected to finish at around the 5.0 mark so I knew I'd never stay above 6 for very long when I saw it this morning. Now I guess I just get to watch it drop slowly.
Already had one comment though that ROCKS!

Goshdarnit it's dropping with every vote... Now at exactly 6.0 with only one additional vote.
Sigh...
Still it was nice to see a 6.15 with 18 votes however briefly...
:o)

Mirror images aren't parallel and neither are things that converge, however slightly they do. Otherwise some great shots. :)

The question was always going to be whether the lines could be parallel in reality but appear to converge in the photo, or whether they had to look parallel in the photo too. I decided to play it safe and go for the second option, but my score is still in the low 4's.

Hi everyone, I'm new here and really love the place!
I'm reading people complaining a lot about getting low scores in here. I think that the topic parallel lines was hard. First, there are a lot of railroads, guitars/violin/pianos, tree shots that are about identical, same POV, same focus and all. The first one you see can be good, the second is less impressive and the others seems to be repetitive. You have to be original in your pictures not to fall in that pattern, I'm sure people take originality in consideration (like me) and give lower votes to pictures that are too common. And there was a lot of free interpretations of the "parallel" word too, some forgetting that "lines" was accompaning it! Whether the lines are parallel in the picture or in perspective, I think that meets the challenge, but to see a parallel between two subjects (or whatever that are not lines), I'd say that's not meeting it.
Anyway, I think the score in a challenge is relative, not absolute. Scoring 4, 5 or 6 doesn't really mean anything until the challenge is over. Only then you can compare to others and see if you did well!
Imagine scoring only a 6.67 in this challenge, you'd have won the blue ribbon! But the same score in this one you'd have taken the 14th position.
Well, that's my opinion, nothing else! :)

Did you say imagination and original interpretation gets a higher score? ha ha ha
I have one of my lowest scores going with a few "does not meet the challenge" comments already.
I can't believe it....or actually I can.
Here, the art is NEVER seen, just the exact interpretation in a narrow minded voter.
My pic certainly has parallel lines...maybe they are not exact ruler lines but should they have been?
It's all crazy, sometimes I really hate this place.

Aaaw pooks.
I went from 6.0 off 38 votes to 5.8 off 41 votes.
That's quite a drop from only 3 people.
Ah well...
And now I have that darn UPDATE button too...

Usually higher scores are given out in the member challenges compared to the user challenges. |

Reading some comments in past challenges, I have to agree with you!
Originally posted by TerryGee: My pic certainly has parallel lines...maybe they are not exact ruler lines but should they have been? |
Well, I could submit a picture of my front door, the sides are parallel! The challenge wasn't only to include whatever parallel lines you could frame, but it had to be a Photograph of a subject where parallel lines provide or strengthen the composition of the image, a picture of a door isn't stenghten by the parallel edges.
That's one reason I said the challenge was hard, some people want to see it very largely but to some, the topic and description make it much narrower, on which you would score less.

Maybe members don't like to hurt other members! :)
Might also be that non-members don't really take the voting seriously, which is more than likely to be.
I'm not a membereaq (yet), but I took the time to see and feel every photo before casting my votes. |

I think the results will be the same. Just check the voting average on Member profiles... Some of them won't even reach 4!!!!! |

A rarity lately.
I'm with Terry. Sometimes it's just not worth it even to try to submit. I have plenty of photos I love get just stomped on and I'm pretty over it.
But rather than poo-poo the competition itself, it's up to me to find another outlet instead. This site is what it is and isn't going to change anytime soon. |

Well I can't blame it on the camera anymore. Next logical step, blame it on the kit lens. :)
