Here is something for those who like statistics...Food for thought

Mind you, I personally would not want to be part of those statistics, but it does make one think.

I think I need protecting from my own government more than i do from terrorists, frankly. R.

Here is a little reminder of being pushed too far for all of you with short memories...

I vote for a "boom room". Everyone has to go through the metal detector (guns + thin metal tubes at high altitudes = not good), then they have to go through the boom room. In the boom room, any explosives on your person will be detonated. Families traveling together can go through together. Whole groups traveling together can go through together. If you trust the ten people in front of you - go with them. If not, wait and go on your own.

Couple of drawbacks - it would not be a fun job to clean the boom room after a detonation; and I'm not sure of the technology. But sounds effective, yes?

I do remember the days when there were no detectors of any kind, no checking of IDs, no nothing. Everyone could wander freely in an airport. You didn't need a ticket to be there. You could meet your incoming passengers at their gates. All very cool. Until a couple of planes took unscheduled trips to Cuba. Back to that gun + thin metal tubes at high altitude = not good thing.

Anyway, you're the CEO of Southwest - what's your solution?

Pity the poor old bastard that has nitro pills for a heart condition.

Yep, I can see it now. The wives saying:" Go ahead dear, take a nice relaxing trip, you deserve it"... "Honey... don't forget your heart pills"

Hehehehehe,

This is what they have at the base of the CN Tower if you're going to go up an elevator. You walk through it and it sniffs you. :-D

I don't think the airlines have a lot of say. Security is up to the airport. Anyway, if I'm in charge, lots of dogs trained to sniff for lots of things, plus metal detectors. Very effective and no groin checks.

In an effort aimed at increasing female employment, and reducing male passenger complaints, I would have all the TSA junk checkers be female and chosen with customer satisfaction in mind. That way the women passengers are screened by women, and the men, well, we get to be screened by the women TSA staff too :)
But if I wanted to be safer, I'd probably use dogs too.

Unless they had some other cool animal to choose from, like a bomb sniffing monkey! But not a bomb sniffing moose...

Why not a moose? They have big noses, and most of them are probably better trained than TSA personal.

Heh. You haven't met my dogs. They do groin checks. :P

LOL! Yes a dog will probably "touch your junk" but he is just saying hello. And they do have bomb rats now. Very effective too!

TSA bumper stickers:

Can't see London,
Can't see France,
Unless we see your underpants!

Grope discounts available

If we did our job any better, we'd have to buy you dinner first.

Don't worry, my hands are still warm from the last guy

We are now free to move around your pants

It's not a grope, it's a freedom pat

We handle more packages than UPS

Is anyone here planning on attending any of the protests being held at various airports today?

There's one at Portland International, but we're not going because snow and ice have made the roads unsafe.

We can end the need to do things like this to be safe by making America (and Western Europe can do the same) inaccessable to those who would do us harm. Unfortunately we choose not to.

...and exactly who would those folks be? Can you readily differentiate between friend and foe? Do these people look different, dress different, pray to a different God... Seriously, just who are these people you are talking about?

My guess is that you are making blanket assumptions about a group of people that you know nothing about.

Exactly Ray

You cant identify good and bad so lets stop allowing citizens of hostile nations from coming to America

Lets start with Saudi Arabia. 15 Saudis were on the 9/11 planes. How about this, no more tourist or student visas for Saudi's to come to the USA. All of them are here can get out.

That not the answer. Yes people intend to do us harm, but the moment we close our borders, we start down the path of destroying something makes this country great, namely tolerance of many cultures and beliefs.

The real solution is to cease to maintain a foreign policy that fosters this resentment.

I don't have much tolerance for cultures where many of the people believe I'm an infidel and must come to see the world their way or be killed.

Bullwinkle: Hey Rocky, watch me pull a terrorist out of my hat.
Rocket 'Rocky' Squirrel: Awww not again, that trick never works.
Bullwinkle: This time for sure!

So you are pretty much a white supremasist and afraid of anyone that is not white and live on Long Island?

The culture of a terrorist group is totally separate from the culture of the general population. Even saying that, it's the people running the terrorist organization who are intolerant. Just like a Church as an organization is separate from the people who follow its teachings.

Gee you and the terrorists seem to have so much in common in your world views, I don't know why you can't get along.

You want to drive Muslims out of America. They want to drive Americans out of Muslim lands.
You say America must not tolerate them. They say Muslim countries must not tolerate western influence.
You would like to change our laws to keep us safe from them. They would like to change to Sharia law to keep themselves safe from our culture.

When you begin to believe you must adopt the same behavior as your enemy uses to attack you in your defense, you have already lost.
I will keep living by American values; in the assumption of innocence, of the inherent worth of all people, and count on the ideals that have brought us to this point to carry us through these difficult times.
