It certainly does seem to vary wildly on the photo. Some photos that I think it will help on I cannot seem to get the results I want. But in other photos, it really does make a difference. I think this tool is going to work well once I get a good understanding of it (just like the other Topaz plugins).

Good news for existing Topaz Bundle owners - simply download the bundle update - InFocus is included.

IMO, InFocus is simply showing what is there - in the mirror picture, there is a shadow to the left of the wood piece in the mirror. In the bottles, it is showing the shape of the bottle (both in the smile at the bottom of the top row labels, and in the curvature at either side.) You can see a similar shape that appears, but isn't as hot in the Green Tea bottles at the right side.

Since I struggle big-time with soft focus, I am looking forward to playing with this to see what it can do.

I own the bundle and tried my Topaz key and it didn't work. But I didn't use the unified installer. Think that matters?

Actually, I wrote to them about it, and they said if you already own the bundle, you have to buy it separately. Only new purchases get it. Though I wondered what that would do for people trying to use the unified installer.

And what will they do about future upgrades to individual products in the bundle? I'm having that problem with NIK. They added HDR Effex to the bundle after I bought it. And they said I would have to buy it. Same for the Viveza two upgrade to 2. No real bundle upgrades. And their stuff is EXPENSIVE.

As for InFocus, so far, I'd be hesitant to pay for it. I've tried it on about 5 files, and I think it only helped in the least on one, which wasn't really out of focus, just soft. Maybe like denoise it will take them a few versions to get it right.

Deconvolution advice from the developer:

"Be aware of the limitation of deconvolution technology:
- it will amplify noise - the larger the blur is, the more noisy the deblurred image will be. So run Topaz DeNoise or any noise reduction first if the image is noisy.
- if different part of the image has a different blur, you may be able to do it in a few layers with different settings and merge them together.
- if you use blur estimation, pan the preview to the part of the picture with a lot of strong edges. Those edges are used in the estimation. No strong edge, no info to estimate blur."

Also:

"Deconvolution is very sensitive [regarding] noise/compression artifacts. It's always good to process before any compression. If your final output is smaller, here is my workflow:
1. open RAW image in PS
2. resize the RAW image to the output size, using "bicubic" method*
3. use Infocus to sharpen/deblur it.
4. save it as JPEG, with any compression suitable for your purpose.

*Step 2 is very important before using InFocus because downsizing actually reduces noise and makes large blur more manageable. Even if you only have a JPEG image, downsizing using the bicubic method will reduce the compression artifacts too."
