Nothing seems to be broken, at least visibly and neither can my ears hear any tinkling of broken bits. The camera powers up and shows all the images before the fall but ones I now take are just black blankness. I can't seem to understand who is at fault, the lens or the camera and troubleshooting with google is no help at all.

I am not a multi lens person so I am not very familiar with what my camera looks like from the inside so I can't even make a fair analysis of whether it looks okay. I would be very grateful if someone could lend me some advice:(

If you put the camera in cleaning mode and take the lens off, does the mirror flip up so you can see the sensor?

Or more easily...do you see the viewfinder blank when you shoot and hear the slap of the mirror? If so, try Shannon's idea and see if something looks broken inside in cleaning mode.

Even if the mirror raises, it could be the shutter isn't opening anymore due to the fall. They still use electro-mechanical shutters.

The mirror is not doing anything- I think it's stuck

And that was the problem.. whew!!! The mirror was stuck in it's place and I had to shove it a bit to flip it but that did the trick. Ugh, my ignorance about the interior of my camera is astounding.

Thank you so much!!!!

*phew* yay, glad it wasn't more serious! Could've been something really fun to deal with, like when Magnumphotography's mirror fell out of his 5D. He was able to glue it back in, but I know I would have freaked if that had happened.

Makes me glad I shoot Nikon :-)

Might be worth getting it looked at when you get a chance though - it should be fine, but might benefit from a service - you dont want it sticking when lining up a crucial shot!
