Hm. Anybody gotten a chance to mess with this much yet? Is it really that different from Detail?

It's a totally different beast. And quite astonishing. It's better than anything I've ever seen at recovering detail from less-than-critically-sharp images. I have used Focus magic for years, but this blows it away. At $29.99 you can't afford not to buy it,s eriously :-)

Steve is beta testing it right now. He likes it.

It initially sounds a lot like detail, but I think it is more effective at what I wanted detail to do. I was part of the Beta test over the last couple of days. Here's a couple of examples of some soft cameraphone pics I ran it on:

And what happened when you tried the same sort of thing with detail?
I'm curious because the method I've used to boost apparent focus on images has been a combination of Detail and Dodge/Burn application to create what appears like sharper edges. Seeing your side by side makes me think this is pretty cool though.

I didn't try it with detail. I've mostly been using detail for it's color adjustment sliders recently.

Just an FYI if you use the supersharp code to buy the whole bundle you will get $40 off for a total of $159.99 instead of $169.99 by using the plugnpixels code at checkout. Just bought the whole package to try it out. Steve may I bug you for some help later if needed?

Sure, but Topaz runs very short beta's. I've only had a couple of days to play with it. Here is a video tutorial from Topaz on basic usage.

Well I installed all of them, followed the video link and everytime I try to let it estimate blur it crashes.....really sucks to spend $160 for software that crashes immediately. :( have you had any issues with it crashing? It keeps telling me to report the error to Topaz.
11/20/2010 12:58:36 AM · #12
Yes, I have had it crashing, but nobody else in the beta test had that issue and Topaz labs could not duplicate it. It was assumed a fluke. If you can copy and save the crash info and send it to me, I will forward it to Topaz. Make sure to list your software and system configuration details, so they can see if there is anything in common.

Can you tell me how to save the crash info? I can do it every time? I actually can't use that plug in at all, but all the others are fine.

I take it SC are aware this account is purely for the use of advertising/selling a product?

Assuming you are using Windows, check and see if you are running the latest beta 3. The official release date for InFocus is Monday.

I just downloaded the Bundle on your website, hopefully you have the latest release in the bundle you are selling to your customers. I am currently uploading a youtube video so you can see the crash. I can duplicate it every time I try to use the plugin.

crash video sounds worse then it is.

I'm not the developer (my site is an information resource with links to the various developers as a convenience), but I think beta 3 would be the most recent build (uploaded 2 days ago). I too just downloaded the bundles for both Mac and Win and they seem older, even though InFocus is listed as part of it on the description. I would suspect this would change for Monday's official release.

Give the beta 3 a try and let us know.

Just downloaded beta 3 from your link, same exact crash. Still an unusable plugin for me.

Beta3 still crashes on me as well, though sometimes it works. Got your (extensive) system info list Matt. If you can copy the crash data next time, I'll send it to Topaz.

Added: The first beta gave me more detailed crash info. This one just says there is an error.

Sorry Steve, wasn't sure how else to get you the system info you needed. I couldn't figure out how to get crash data from it.

I'd suggest everyone hold off spending any money until they can actually make it usable. I'm going to send a message to the site owner about a refund for the whole package if they can't make it work.

Any Mac users having a similar problem? I just did a quick test with a not-huge image (MacBook Pro i5, PS CS5) and the process completed as expected. What size image are you using? Can you email it to me?

And don't worry, Topaz developers are seriously on the ball and will make this work. Their high level of customer service is well known.

Just tried Estimate Blur on a 16-meg file (scan source) and had no problem on the MacBook (4 gigs RAM).

At this point I'm suspecting your system. What OS? How much RAM? What processor?
11/20/2010 02:28:27 AM · #23
The crash problem that Matt and I experienced is only with AMD processors. They have a test patch (a replacement DLL file) and I am sure as soon as they are certain it works, it will be slipped into the download file and made available for those that already downloaded it. These guys are very responsive.

AMD, that's a familiar problem. What exactly is the issue there?

The plugin crashes when one clicks the estimate blur button. So far, the patched dll seems to have taken care of it.
