| Found an interesting deal for the most inexpensive carbon fiber tripod I've ever seen. Specs are here. |

I could use a tripod for setting up reflectors and the like. Is a tripod like this suitable for that, provided that I get the right kind of head that has a boom and a clip? Or is that an entirely separate piece of equipment?
FWIW, after adding the tripod to my Amazon cart, it was still $99 :/ |

A tripod is overkill for that. Most people use a $20-30 light stand.

| The site (dealmac) reporting obviously isn't familiar with Amazon. They've deducted $25 for the deal as if you were going to sign up for an Amazon credit card. Yes, the item could be $75, but it's a pretty shabby reporting. |

| what is the point of a carbon fiber tripod? i though you want a tripod that has some weight to increase camera stability from wind and such. |

Well strictly you want a tripod that's rigid rather than heavy - but with traditional materials the two go hand in hand. Adding weight to a tripod is still a very good method of increasing it's stability and rigidity, but it's nicer to only add the extra weight when you want it- rather than have it built in :- ) |

If you proceed all the way through check out, it drops to $74.99. on the last page before you submit the order, it takes a $25.00 promotional discount. I didn't complete the purchase, but if I had, it would have been $74.99 shipped. |

Many higher-end tripods, including this one, have a hook for hanging a sandbag (or your camera bag) for extra stability. |

If it doesn't, but has a tripod screw on the bottom end (as mine does) you can make an adapter from a 1/4" coupling nut and J-Hook -- less than a dollar at a good hardware store. |
