Since your expectation is low, you're not being masochistic. A negative score would be considered abusive. Not entering gives you no score. By entering, you've stacked the odds in your favor, since the outcome, both literally and figuratively, can only be positive. ;)

ok, here's the thing about the name of this challenge.

"Center" is a noun and a verb. In order to say something is in the center, you make the verb into an adjective thus: "centered"

If you want to say something is not in the center, you say that it is "off center." The "off" makes it an adjective phrase.

Therefore, "off centered" is meaningless jibberish.

I am highly offended, but will still enter this challenge under protest.

hehehe now I'm looking forward to seeing your entry!

I can't help having high hopes cuz I actually like my shot... but anytime I like my shot it does terrible.

It bugged me as well to be honest. Although, if the challenge topic is indeed gibberish, I've entered the photographic equivalent.

Keep in mind that the title of the challenge is "off-centered subject", not "off centered".
The word subject renders the "off centered" adjective valid.

Of course, using "a subject which is not centered" would have been more appropriate.

Good point, Mr. Pan. I was going on this particular thread title, however, because I have the memory of a fruit fly.

Alright got mine in. I think it is pretty good but it may be viewed as over processed. Oh well I have two 6+ finishes lately so I am do for a lower scoring entry.

Not me. I figure the meaning is crystal clear; you have to photograph the word "off", and be sure it's absolutely centered. Am I right?

awesome! you all gave me a nice laugh. :)

I just got my submission in. I spent as much time choosing a title and writing a few lines of description as I did processing all my candidate images and choosing my "best" from among them. Yo_Spiff is probably still going through his 2000+ shots... ;)

If you're defending based on grammar and in advance of rollover ... maybe think about pulling your entry.

:)

umm... including a noun with your malformed adjective does not make your malformed adjective any less malformed.

For a bunch of break-the-rules art enthusiasts, you're really letting yourselves get bent out of shape over a challenge title? ;)

This reminds me that I know I guy who will leave a shoe untied if someone points it out... just to irk them about it.

You should move to Australia..
Rollover is at 4pm. :D

rollover in singapore is at lunch time. Now you just need to decide whether you want to take your lunch first or look at the final tally first. :)

Not sure if I succeeded in "trying something a little different", as I still came back with 228 shots on my walk today. However, I did select about 60 to do some initial simple post-processing (contrast/brightness). I don't think that percentage of "decent" candidates usually catch my eye on my typical outings.

Really? Now I feel like a total miser. I've shot a bit under 20,000 shots since getting my D300 two years ago (most of these were for bracketing for HDR). It's madness to me if I have over 30 real shots before a challenge. For me, no matter how many I shoot, there are 3-4 that I know are IT before I even look afterward. As in, I'm shooting and I KNOW that it is THE ONE/TWO/THREE. Try looking more. Use manual focus. The realization of having THE SHOT is something I want everybody to have. Seriously, slow down and value your time. Nothing excites me more than when I hit IT and know it. Know what is there, and what is not. If you tend to your shots, you'll see it as it happens, and that's the best part.
ETA: I had around 300 shots from an excursion (including flash test shots) for this challenge and there were 5 I knew were worthy of the challenge before I looked. Knowing that click is a keeper is priceless.

This might be my problem as well (in addition to the other problems). If I go out specifically to shoot for a challenge I'll take about 15-20 shots. That's it.

I take a huge amount of shots -- definitely more than I should. However, I've found that slight variations make a huge difference in my enjoyment of my own shots.

I've taken probably about 18,000 shots since July. (although, I did a wedding, and I had a huge number of shots for that with the pre-wedding, wedding and 4 hours of reception and shots in between.

Definitely what I've been trying to do. The shot I submitted for this challenge did give me that feeling, like I had captured something amazing. I got that feeling just a few times during the day. It's also a nice treat to go through the shots later and "re-discover" those shots amongst the rest.

I'm now up to 11,000 shots since July 8th. My rate is slowing, now that I'm only out once or twice a week. I started a new job about 4 weeks ago, but I had been off since July just "doing the photography thing". Most/all of it is experimentation from the ground up. If I thought I knew what I was doing, I'd surely go out just for those shots. I'm starting to be more selective and am not always hitting the button when I pull the camera up to my face. It's been a great experience. :)
