I have a feeling I've seen this topic mentioned, but I couldn't find it.
My camera suddenly gave me a 'memory card error' message and I couldn't take any more photos or view the ones I had. I thought the card might still show me my pics on TV but that just asked me 'is the SD card in?' My computer card reader didn't recognize it either. I took the card to a local camera/photography shop and they used a memory recovery program and put images onto a CD. But not all of them were recovered. The images recovered were the most important ones - my daughter's wedding - but they were also ones I'd already downloaded. More recent ones, some downloaded, some not, are lost. I have never experienced any memory card problems before (other than through my own stupidity erasing a whole card). Is this a common problem? Do I trust this card again (camera shop reformatted it)? As it was the first time I have used this brand (Olin) do I trust it again?. The card is a 4g high speed SD. I usually use SanDisk or Fujifilm 2g with no mention of high speed. I had previously tried to use this card in my Konica Minolta Dimage, but it told me straight up that it was incompatible. Oh, and this card came in a twin pack and I gave the other one to my son-in-law for his new camcorder. Do you think his videos will be at risk too? |

| It's really tough to say whether it will fail again. It could be a problem with the card or it might not be. Good cards can get corrupted if a write is interrupted, or under some other unusual conditions. I'd be lying if I said there was no risk of a repeat. |

| Memory cards are relatively cheap right now. Why risk it? I would recommend buying a new one. |

ditto bamartin: get a new card. also, follow this process: download immediately after shooting, make a backup of your downloaded files, put your card in your camera, then format it. |

| Thanks for the response. I think I'll try it out on something unimportant, then format it and keep it as an emergency spare. You're right - cards are very cheap compared to what they used to cost. |
