Perhaps if I thought any one of you were genuenly offended by this I would remove my image. But instead, I'm going to let the mods decide if I am in need of sensorship. [/quote]
Well, I for one am offended, I don't have any (living) relatives with Downe's but feel this is really in bad taste. I do admit to laughing at/even telling close to the knuckle jokes but as has been said before we must have standards?

It was my interpretation of the above quotes that not a single one of these people were actualy offended by the image that was suppose to bring some humor to the situation and even more so, some common sense that arguing (such as we are now) is really pretty freaking stupid in a forum situation. Yet I and many of us continue it.
If I really thought someone was offended, and they were hurt by my picture, I would have removed it. But instead it's a bunch of people who just jump to the conclusion that I'm some hate monger. So instead, it makes me feel good to push some buttons and leave it up there for the time being!
I think I'm finished with this thread....

I am a very open minded person. I don't often get offended. I really don't. And I did find that image offensive and upsetting. I am unsure as to why you find that hard to believe or feel it to be a lie.
But you're certainly not pushing any of my buttons by your latest posts.
I am simply curious about your attitude and I think your reaction is very sad. But it says more about you than posting that image in a moment of humour ever did.

I should probably add, incase it's not obvious, that the image itself doesn't offend me at all - infact it's a lovely sports portrait. It's the text that's been added to it that makes it offensive to me as a whole.

I guess you didnt bother reading my reply - above your response?
Right now I think it would cause as many problems if you removed the picture, maybe 'the council' could just get this thread back on track by removing all but the original post?
There are limits and I (for one) think this thread is well past what this forum should be about!

Personally, the funniest thing about the whole thing is that we are arguing on the internet about a picture posted in regards to arguing on the internet.

I'm personally offended and I feel hurt.
If it was making fun of the kid because he was black or if he was a she, would it still be funny?
You choose to perpetuate the belief that you are a "hate monger" and based on your posts, I must believe that you are either a "hate monger" or just one of the most insensitive, offensive people I have ever come across. I guess if it makes you feel good to reinforce that image of yourself, that's up to you.

It's my interpretation that the rant forum doesn't abide by the same rules. It clearly states that the forum is unmoderated and they give you the option to view the rant forum or not in Your Preferences. If you think you might be offended by something posted or that something that you see here is in poor taste, why come here in the first place? Just check the box and you won't even know about it.
This is a great site and I hate to see you calling for the admin. to do something when they have designed this forum for you to look out for yourselves. Just my opinion. |

Before I weigh in, I want to make it perfectly clear that I am not speaking in my capacity as Site Council. I am speaking solely as a user of the site.
Russell, I'd like to introduce you to my cousin Josh. Josh is 9 years old, and is probably the most loving, caring child I've ever met in my life. In many ways, he's a typical 9-year-old... he loves to roughhouse with his younger brother, though he would never really hurt him. He's always looking out for his 3-year-old sister, to make sure she doesn't get into any real trouble.
Josh is small for his age -- he's about the same size and weight as his 6-year-old brother. When Josh was very young (about 2, I think), he started losing weight rapidly and nearly died -- it was trying for his doctors, because they didn't know why this was happening; but fortunately they somehow found the right combination of treatments to stop it and get him back on track to a reasonable weight for his (small, even then) size. The nurses at the hospital nicknamed him "happy boy" because he was always smiling, and this rubbed off on the other kids, too.
We knew by that point that Josh had some type of condition that would continue to impair his physical and mental development; though at the time we did not know what that condition was. This summer, his parents took him to a doctor in England (they're from Pennsylvania) who was finally, after 9 years, able to diagnose his condition. Though I cannot recall the name of the condition at the moment, the news was chilling; there is no cure, little treatment, and children with the condition live to an average age of 15 years.
I'll leave it to you to decide whether I am genuinely offended by your post. I believe you know where the edit button is.
-Terry
