Now that I've upgraded my laptop from WinXP to Win7 (Home), I've got some choices. I've used both Roxio and Nero in the past, but don't feel any allegiance to either.

I do remember being nagged by Roxio about a sound track for a vidio I'd made possibly being copyrighted, and suggesting a upgrade to be able to write the DVD. I only make DVDs for our family, and that sit pisses me off.

Things I'd use it for:

1. Video DVDs to play in dvd/PS3 player.
2. DVD backups.
3. CDs

What do you use?
Cost?
Does it suck or is it OK?

Thanks for any advice!

I have Nero, simply because it came for free with my burner. I do need to check LG's site to see if there is an upgrade, as I don't have any 64 bit Lightscribe drivers for it. (I bought it when I originally built the PC with 32 bit Vista)

Advice: Don't sit when you piss, yer a dude! ;-)

I actually don't have any third party software for burning. For data CDs/DVDs there's no need. For video DVDs, I have no useful information, never made one. Bottom line, they are rapidly becoming unnecessary, as televisions and related hardware are rapidly incorporating ways to play or stream digital media directly. For instance the blu-ray player I just bought (Samsung BD-C6500) has wireless connectivity built in and a front-panel USB port.

Good point(s) ;-D

I want to make a DVDs with a menus to select clips, as my videos are typically short. Then I can give copies to my dad who lives in a remote spot with only dial-up internet. I also like to have DVDs as they seem more tangible to me.

I do have a PS3 which is on my network, but it's just not a central item in our house.
