I might have to replace my 20D due to a CF card problem. I probably wouldn't spend much more than the cost of the 20D replacement or repair so around $250-$550 or so.

I was looking at the Canon 1D (4 MP version). Its' high sync speed (1/500th) would be very useful for me, but is it a good enough camera for portrait/fashion work? I figure since it's an old camera it wouldn't have a good ISO performance, but I wonder if that matters since Lightroom does a pretty good job nowadays with noise reduction and I wouldn't need to use any of the higher ISO settings for what I do.

Other options would be a used Canon 30D or 40D but when those first came out I didn't see enough to upgrade at the time. It seems the main benefit of those over the 20D was the low light performance but that isn't a big need for me.

Thoughts?

I loved my 40D. Definitely my favorite of any of the cameras I've owned.
