Mormon Parents Rejected For Scout Leadership Post
This article warms the cockles of my heart. My blood's irony-rich. Turnabout... it's fair play!
Basically, Mormon parents were turned away from Scout leadership positions because they weren't Christian enough, just like atheists and homosexuals.
Just think... if they weren't such jerks about gays... perhaps we'd come to their defense. But given they support the idea that gays aren't fit for this duty, I have no problem using their own arguments against them. If it's okay to ban us, is should be totally okay for the Scouts to ban THEM for whatever religious incompatibility reasons they want. Tough titty!
You'd never get that impression reading the outrage expressed by the Mormons!
"I can't believe they had the audacity to say, 'You can't be leaders but we want your boys,"' Jodi Stokes said. "Are you kidding me? Do you really think I'd let my boys go there now?"
How's it feel, Jodi? :)
I love schadenfreude. |

'hoist by your own petard'.
Singing
"Sorry, Nicky, human nature-
Nothing I can do!
It's...
Schadenfreude!
Making me feel glad that I'm not you."

But more specifically, they were turned away from a troop that was sponsored by a Presbyterian church. They are not being banned somehow from being leaders of any Boy Scout troop. Just clearing up a few details. I don't think it negates your point if you want to keep doing your little happy dance of spite. |

They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

I feel sorry for the other kids. Being indoctrinated into Bigot Club. Poor saps. No wonder there are so many obnoxious religious arseholes around the place. |

Don't judge them too harshly, Clive. They can't help it: it's the price of admission. |

I would forgive them with a hug but i suspect my non repentant sinning arms would make them run a mile. |

I figure Scouts, like so many other organisations, are just another tool of religious recruitment. So it's no big surprise to me. :-/ |

There is only a small section on 'Duty to God' in Scouting For Boys. Far more space is dedicated to preserving the Empire which is how it should be. Leave all the wishy washy spiritual stuff to the Girl Guides i say. |

I thought every Mormon churches had a scout troop associated with it. Why would they goto a Presbyterian church for scouts? Since it's a Church sponsored program, the church can call the shots.
I don't think you would agree to support people joining the Boy Scouts. FYI, the scouts don't accept gay leaders (according to the USSC, you can't be a gay Scout Leader).
