EEK!!

Woke up this morning with a bunch of extra votes and .1 less..
I suppose I should be happy with anything over a 6, though I was secretly hoping for a 6.5..

Looks like yesterday and last nights voters were non as enthusiastic about anyone. My score also steadily dropped a whole tenth from a 6.113 to a 6.033 I really just want to hang on above a 6 but who am I kidding I would love my 6.1 back again.

Hmm, recent commenter gave me a 4 and confused one photography element for another. Keeping an eye or this person! Fancy camera, but no data! Average vote from this person is sub 5, so....right on target I guess....ugh!

What happened to the voters at the begining of this challenge, I want them back! I used to be getting 6's and 7's now I am mostly getting 5's.

oh drat!!!!

I just looked at my chalk photos in photoshop. I worked mostly with just one photo -- there was another photo that I marked as a possibility that I didn't end up working with very much. I just opened it, cropped it, and it's far far better than the one I entered! It has a real wow factor that I missed the first time around. :(

Ok, edited to add: I just showed my husband the other shot, and he said "oh no! That would have been a 7! Yup. You goofed. It would have been one of your top rated shots."

So the moral of the story is: Always go back and look at your shots one more time before entering.

It seems like a distant memory now but I was up to a 6.2. Now I just really, really want it to go back above a 6 it would be my first one and I am so close. Voting has really slowed down so it probablly won't happen. You never know though!:)

I have gotten some really nice comments, and this is the first time I have had anyone put my picture on their favorites, so I'm happy about that too.

2 favorites is way better than a 6 (though I'm really hoping that you hit that 6!!!) Since you haven't received a favorite before, I thought I'd let you know how incredibly rare it is to get two favorites during the voting process. If you look at any ribbon winner, you'll see that most of them have many favorites. I have one photo that has 25 favorites. However, those came after the challenge was over. Not one of those favorites came during voting, only after it received a ribbon.

In 188 challenges, & 35 top 10s, I can only remember a handful of challenges that ever received 2 or more favs during voting.

So you must have a very special picture that really touched some people -- I can hardly wait to see it!

That is nice to know, it makes them that more meaningful to me. I do feel like I had a pretty good picture, the lighting was a bit off, so I knew before I entered it that it wasn't going to be on top. I felt the image and idea were good enough to at least get a decent score. I think my votes are split between those who are scoring on the image alone, and those who can't get past the lighting.

I'm not sure how you separate the two; without lighting, there is no image. Do you mean "the idea alone", or the "concept"? It wouldn't be unheard of to get a decent score with a great concept that suffers from flawed execution, you're right about that :-)

Hahaha, some people would complain about a 7+ score complaining. Actually people would complain about a 6+ score complaining. But scores dropping are scores dropping. It's never any fun. And when you're in definite ribbon territory, scores dropping can be even worse. So I say, complain all you want. (and we'll pick on you behind your back :)

what I mean is Some people judge more on the concept and are able to overlook a few technical flaws, while other judge soley on technical merit. I try to use a combination of both. Which, thankfully I think most people do. I am glad the technical aspect is a part of it as well, otherwise, how would we ever progress as photographers. In my photo I had to balance between knowing technically it wasn't perfect, but also knowing that if I did a re-shoot with better lighting I most likely would have not gotten the same capture. So I decided to keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best :)

Since I was the first to complain about the drop in score, let me thank the kind voters over the last 12 hours or so. may it continue through the weekend for all :)

Haha who is it?!?!! I think I got a comment from the same ahem photographer. My high 6 is now a mid 6. I won't bitch and moan because I thought my image might make a 5, when I first submitted it. Loll

Although this photographer may be off I would dearly love to know who it is. He/she is certainly making huge efforts in commenting on photos - to that person's credit. It will be a little while and with everything learnt from commenting - be it errors made, he/she will be the next ribbon contender.

nonononono!! I don't want it to continue all weekend -- I've dropped a chunk in that time. They haven't been kind on this end. :(
