Today I had a shoot with a very talented model. We started with some "simple" shots by a fountain with a basic one light setup (Canon 580 EXII off camera reflected off white brolly) I used my new wireless setup to give me more freedom and to stop me pulling the light stand over..
Of course this freedom led me away from the light and when a gust of wind blew my light stand was blew into the fountain completely submerging my 580, this happened not once (I donĂ¢€™t learn) but twice and the flash was completely soaked!
The stand clearly wasn't heavy enough as it was only a cheap ebay stand.
The flash was perfectly fine and works as if nothing had happened! I'm glad I paid the extra money for the flash build quality, now to get more expensive light stands..

Ok... first of all, I'm spending too much time on DPC instead of "wireless setup", I read "wineglass setup".
It's nice to know that the 580 is that resilient! I did a shoot for the first time with umbrellas, and had the same problem (stands blowing over, though not into water.) I just plopped my camera bag on one of the legs to weigh it down. It seemed to work, though I spent a lot of time watching it to make sure.
Great shots! (although I was hoping for a shot of the flash & umbrella in the fountain)

NonononoNO!
We don't want pictures of the MODEL; fabulous as they are. No, what we want is pictures of the FLASH in the fountain! C'mon! We're train-wreck gawkers here!

Nevermind the pics of the flash, I would pay money to see pics of the look on your face when it fell in. :)
Model pics are top notch! |
