I have been looking for a while for a way to easily play native AVCHD files on my HDTV rather than through the camcorder. It looks like there may finally be a solution. Thought I'd pass it on.

the western digital WDTV Plus is a better cheaper solution plus has netflix built-in.
or you can wait for the google tv but the $299 tag is a little steep. |

From the specs it doesn't look like it supports AVCHD? |

Hmm, can you link me? Here's what I see on whatever page I'm on...
Video - AVI (Xvid, AVC, MPEG1/2/4), MPG/MPEG, VOB, MKV (h.264, x.264, AVC, MPEG1/2/4, VC-1), TS/TP/M2T (MPEG1/2/4, AVC, VC-1), MP4/MOV (MPEG4, h.264), M2TS, WMV9
Photo - JPEG, GIF, TIF/TIFF, BMP, PNG
Audio - MP3, WAV/PCM/LPCM, WMA, AAC, FLAC, MKA, AIF/AIFF, OGG, Dolby Digital, DTS
Playlist - PLS, M3U, WPL
Subtitle - SRT, ASS, SSA, SUB, SMI
I have definitely had softward or hardware that say they play h.264 that can't play a straight AVCHD file which is a .MTS extension. |

Plus remote (130$)
Plus camera accessory (150$)
Plus keyboard (100$)
So, 680 USD for a box that Apple sells for 99 bucks. (no idea about accessories)
Doc, I'm presuming that file format is what the 5DII creates, right?

No, the 5D2 actually creates .MOV quicktime files which is very easy to use. These files are coming from a Canon HD camcorder and I find them very good, but very frustrating to use. Blessedly Windows 7 can play them natively, but that's on the computer. Watching them on the TV has been impossible (or not easy) unless you play them straight off the camcorder. |

How about playing them back on a Win7 laptop and connecting to the TV with an HDMI cable? this is the way my son plays various movie formats in his dorm room. Granted, you do need a modern laptop that is equipped with an HDMI output, but these are becoming pretty common. |
