Playing with the possibilities of this challenge, I started with that:
That's just a bowl, a small stone, and some coriander!!
Even if I quite like it, I think it was not a really good picture. So I went for a ride with the car and did that:
that
that
and that
I like the two first ones but to me something special was missing.
I think the composition of the third one is really interesting. This low point of view bring a kind of magic, as if the viewer was a small creature of Negativiland! The road and trees were also really good to me. But I found that the car was kind of not so neat , black reflect not so good, the GB badge was cut, and a spot of rust was distracting me... So I was not convinced!
The car in the last one is much more clean, but the composition and the environment is less magical...
So I finally submitted this one, which to me was the best compromise between the shots I had:
I would really appreciate if some people could tell me which one was the best to them, just to have an idea!! |

That's a hell of a selection there. I think that first pic is fairly incredible and took a great deal of creativity to conjure up. I also really like the row of cars. Great colors, and a nice curve to pull the eye through the photo. Your entry was great, but to be honest I'm not as into it as those others, BUT, it does have a playful, human element to it and that resonates with voters (well, people in general).
This challenge more than any other has really pointed out to me that I am much more interested in composition and design elements involved in photos. Emotion is often wasted on me, and looking through my portfolio now it's obvious what I enjoy shooting and what I've had to force myself to shoot.
My favorite photos in this challenge all looked as though they had been stripped from Tron, or some futuristic animated movie. I thought that was the best use of the negative treatment. |

I think you chose the right one, Chris, but I quite like the process you went through to get it, and the time you took to explain it. |

Thanks much, Deb! I had several that I really liked, but the one I entered was far and above my favorite, which set off all that re-shooting mania. :)
Edit/addition: I'm also quite proud to say that the only edits on these were to invert them, resize, and add the border. I "found" all of these by inverting everything I took on the few days I did a lot of experimental shooting to see what might look good as a negative. Because of the wonderful results, I've actually experimented with inverting other stuff since then, too.
