I'm shooting a wedding on Saturday and I rented a D700. I need to get CF cards (since my D90 uses SD cards) and I came across these:
//www.thecamerastore.com/products/memory-cards-readers/memory-cards/cf/lexar-platinum-ii-200x-8gb-compact-flash

I have used Lexar cards before without any issues. These ones are substantially cheaper than the other CF cards listed so I am somewhat hesitant to relying on them. I was thinking of buying a pair of the 8 GB ones.

Thoughts?

edit: *sigh* THESE CF cards...not THE.... grrr. Stupid title fail :(

I think you'll find that they are probably pretty reliable cards; Lexar is a good name. They are going to be relatively slow cards by today's standards, and for that speed card, they don't seem to be that good a deal. For instance these cards are only a little more expensive and are *much* faster, and are the most respected brand in the industry. Sandisk's slower cards can be had more cheaply, FWIW.

I use these Sandisk Extremes as well, fast write time, and fast download time. Relatively cheap for what they are. I only use Sandisk, always have since getting into digital. When I bought one of my SD cards for the Pentax(a couple of years ago) it included a free USB reader which is now used for tranferring data etc.

Yeah...I swear by Sandisk myself. The ones at The Camera Store are a bit more money but I can buy a pair somewhere else. The part that sucks (or I'll have to deal with) is that I'll never use them again until I rent a camera that uses them. $100 for a pair of cards that won't see a lot of use seems like a lot of money but then again its cheap compared how I'd feel about losing the couples pictures because of a failed card. I think I'll spend the extra money on the Sandisk cards.

I have just the solution to your problem for the surplus cards, either mail them to me at a used price:)) Or, buy a D700!!

I guess there's another option. Buy a good Sandisk card and then one of the cheaper Lexars.

oh...and I would LOVE to buy a D700..and I imagine that love will grow once I shoot with it this weekend :)

Oh it will:) I'm afraid the D90 is living on borrowed time now:( I thought the D300 was the dog's dangly bits, and it still is for certain shots when you want the DX reach, but compare a D300 shot to a D700 shot and look real hard for the noise in the D700. Trouble is the FX lenses aren't cheap either. Luckily most of my lenses were FX, so it wasn't too painful moving across.

Enjoy the wedding shoot and let us know what you think of the D700?
