I am going to send a FREE DPC Hat to the winner of Macro VII challenge if the photo doesn't include bug(s), droplet(s) and bubble(s) (or any combination of those)

The game is on!

Come on, people! There are a lot of folks that enjoy bug photography, and macro doesn't come along that often. Let them have their fun!

If we're going to complain, we should complain about the fact that the challenge wasn't announced 24 hours ago. I finally saw a bug eating a bug, but it was 1 day too soon! :)

Agreed. You just gave an excellent idea to those who are locked-on regular macro ideas :P

You are not serious right? This is macro VII. There have been 17 macro challenges, (abstract, puzzle, macro without bugs) of one form or another. I would say this is the single most overdone challenge topic on DPC.

Then, I'm quite glad you aren't the one who's doing the choosing :)

Meaning what exactly? I'm not suggesting it's not a good topic, I love shooting macro, it just can hardly be considered to be a topic that doesn't come along often.

DPC'ers have to have macro challenges as a way to justify spending a grand or so on getting set up to be able to photograph tiny things that no one ever notices otherwise.
I must like macro, because I have about five or six lenses with macro capability, as well as ext tubes and a bellows to allow macro with my general purpose lenses.

I doubt people would take issue with seeing more insects or water drops if the photographers taking those pictures tried to show us something new and different each time. By photographers, I mean those in the running for ribbons every time they pick up the camera (i.e. the sharp image takers). By different I mean don't just switch from spider to fly to bee or swapping out things to refract in a water drop, etc, etc. This isn't 1945. The world has already seen the close up of a bug's eye and how a water drop refracts the things behind it. No need to show us the 10,000th version of that concept. Instead focus on something different. Surely there must still be some creative ribbon hogs up to the task?
