Well, university anyway. I'm in a celebratory mood because i've just had my interview and have been accepted to do a Postgraduate M.A in Documentary Photography at the University Of Wales. It looks great and has a very good reputation as being one of the best in the UK. I'm looking forward to getting stuck in and i think it'll be a great way to move my photography into some interesting challenging areas. It's not a 'photojournalism' course in any way and has quite a wide brief of what documentary photography is and has some wonderful photographers as lecturers, some of whom i'd heard of before i found out they taught there. The head of department who i had my interview with today once wrote a book called, 'City Gorged with Dreams: Surrealism and Documentary Photography in Interwar Paris' which sound right up my street!
Anyway, thought i'd share my good news with my fellow DPC-er friends and i'll be sure to keep posting to challenges when i can but i may go a bit quieter than i have been. I'm doing the course part-time so that'll be 2 years and i'm sure i'll keep you all posted on how it's going. |

Thanks guys. I'm really looking forward to it. An added bonus is that the campus is in the beautiful Welsh village of Caerleon, birthplace of one of my favourite Victorian/Edwardian writers, Arthur Machen, and also site of the Roman fortress of Isca and other important archeological sites. It's a very lovely magical place so i'm really looking forward to trips there each week. |
