Hi all -
My sons first lacrosse game was yesterday, so I filled up a 512MB card. I've never shot anything like this before, but I feel like the majority of the shots look great. The game was at 4:00 pm, so the lighting became perfect. The only thing I did to these other than resize was run through neatimage. Any contructive critique for a newbie?
Thanks in advance

Do not use neatimage, these are too soft and dreamy. Neatimage is ok for some work, but sports is not one of them.

Perhaps more care needed to show the ball, and a shallower DOF to take out bg clutter.

Overall nice pics still.

Thanks jp. I agree about the neatimage...

I found it incredibly hard to focus on the ball, due to it's size (or maybe my eyes?).

Thanks for the input

I find when I use neat image I use it on a compiled image, then use it as a layer in my over-all image. I do a hide all mask and reveal only parts I want instead of tyhe entire image.

On these sport images, neat image might work great on the background , but don't reveal areas that you WANT to draw focus (ie the players).

Wow, these are some spectacular photographs!

I find that shooting team sports like soccer (or lacrosse) requires a lot of luck and good timing. I move around a LOT when shooting soccer matches.

Track and field is a different story - no lest moving around, but at least I'll know where an athlete is going to be at any given moment. The jumping and sprinting events are often the most dramatic.

Thanks for the comments. No neatimage from now on with these type shots...we've got about 16 more games to go, so hopefully they'll improve.

btw dirtkahuna - visited your site and LOVE the music!!!!!!!
