That was good!
That phenomenon occurs in this area once in a while during the fall or winter. I didn't know what it was called though.

Isn't Daily Mail widely known for publishing badly fabricated photos....? Just saying... |

It's over-sharpened too.

Well, try entering "roll cloud" as your search term in google images, and see how real they are :-)

Man, I just love odd weather. It's so fun to stumble across wonders of nature (I guess as long as you don't get hurt). Reminds me of grabbing this terrible picture of a noctilucent cloud last year.

Very true- it's just for me, each time I see a Daily Mail reference on a photo forum, I alternately cringe or laugh gleefully at the terribleness. Assuming it's real, it's a pretty cool photo. Interesting phenomenon, in any case, as well. |

That roll cloud phenomenon occurs every year in the north of Australia at the beginning of the rainy season there. "Morning Glory" is its nickname up there. I doubt very much if that photographer hadn't seen one before if he lives there.
I watched a TV program on it last year, about a glider pilot who wanted to fly along one. It was pretty spectacular.
