I really think that's awesome Matt! During our marriage my wife graduated from never having run a mile to running marathons. Running is as much mental as it is physical. Whatever I can say to encourage the change to become a permanent way of life...consider it said!

You could be one of those crazy running addicts yet! :)

Thanks Doc, I have already signed up to run another one end of next month. And I bought a Gym membership to be able to run through the winter on a treadmill and work with some weights. I've dropped 2 inches off my waist already, but not lost a lot of weight due to building muscle while losing fat. I'm going to stick with it, I love the way it's made me feel. And the sense of accomplishment while crossing the finish line was just awesome.

I really enjoyed it, and actually didn't want to abandon it, but sometimes you have to listen to your body -- my knee went from the occasional "tingle" (before I started running) to an all-out cramp/pain several times a day. I stopped the program and a week or so later, the knee pain disappeared completely.

So, I don't get to keep running, but I am trying to walk more. when I lose some weight, and it isn't so abusive to my knee, I plan on starting back.

You might help that knee with a stationary bike. That way you can work it out without any shock loading and less stress loading as well, plus, it will help keep your heart happy.
A couple of years ago, a friend of mine got me started on "Osteo Bi Flex", a brand of chondroitin with some extras in it, and it made a huge difference in my worn joints. Maybe something like that would help you as well. It made a big difference for me within 4 days, and no side effects, except that I still can't seem to get a DPC 7.0 photo.

Treadmill running is an acquired taste so don't give up if it doesn't grab you at first. I used to just give up running in the winter because I don't much like the wet/cold, but then I started running on a treadmill (I started when I was at call at the hospital and couldn't leave). I enjoy it quite a bit now.

Yeah I ran on it for a week or so before the 5K because I had some shin pain and was fitted for new shoes and inserts at a running store. So I used one of the low impact long distance style treadmills to keep training but save my shins. I had never run on a treadmill before........lets just say I felt less then graceful the first couple of times. And getting off it I felt the ground was still moving. LOL I'm sure I'll get the hang of it, but I can certainly run better and more enjoyable on the street, just not always practical.

Matt
