I'm thinking of burning a Bible at the very moment the idiot pastor in Florida ignites the Koran. How will I photograph myself doing it though?

Any ideas?

I want to do it in public too.

Shouldn't a book from every religion be burnt so no-one feels left out ;-)...you know how touchy these religious types get ;-)

Could you burn a copy of Origin of the Species or The God Delusion or something for us Atheists?

Thanks.

It's just a book burning, not a bonfire.

JH, I'm a non believer myself and the only reason I want to do this is to show Christians how ignorant they are in believing that this may ease things between religions.

Not all Christians blablabla.... I just hate repeating it but I'm not pointing the finger at all Christians.

Edited my statement to reflect the small minority of Christians that may believe this is going to help.

In all seriousness, this Terry Jones guy is playing a very dangerous game. Of course we all are against the radical extremists, from whatever religion they are from, especailly if they condone and promote/carry out violence.

If nothing legally can be done to stop this guy, you would think that the 'local' community would try somehow to stop this guy.

just to add...
he can stand on his soapbox all day long for me and spout off..I am all for free speech and anyone should be allowed to say what they want, as long as it doesn't promote violence, that is when it crosses the line...

Oh the irony.

I'm not even keeping up with this story but is he still going on with it? I think he's going to cancel.

I couldn't burn a book even if it was a bible. But burning a book of empty white pages that looks like a bible is an idea though.

Off to print a cover of a bible I could glue to my empty pages book.

As horrendous as a book burning is I'm pretty sure I wouldn't attract much attention here where I live. Religion is not as important as it is in the US or the Middle East. Not saying it's going to stay that way with all the new religious immigrants coming to wonderful Canada where the streets are lined with gold and you can impose your religion onto anyone because our government says you can, against the will of the people who have put religion on the back burner where it deserves to be.

Terry Jones? Why would a Monty Python alumnus want to burn the Koran? :P

chances are, they think he is as loony as we do.

if he is not breaking any laws, exactly how would they stop him?

we had a fruitcake like this in our community last year. the more attention he got
(incuding nat'l media) , the more "powerful" he felt and acted. now, everyone just kinda ignores his rantings and ravings.

There must be incentive there for some weird movie he wants to produce.

What are the views of his congregation on this? Has FOX asked them yet? ;|

To show I wasn't serious about this bible burning thing here's a link that's filled with interesting and very funny stories about people in the news.

I heard that at some earlier point he had applied for and was denied a city "fire permit" but said he'd "go ahead anyway," but that's probably only a citationable offense. However "Disorderly conduct" is usually good for running in someone the police want to arrest ...

Perhaps the Fire Department could get one of those helicopter air-tankers they use on forest fires to drop a few thousand gallons of water onto the pile as soon as he sets a match to it.

I have to say the pastor may be right about one thing -- this action (Koran-burning) would certainly be a clear demonstration of "what's wrong" in this country; ignorance, bigotry, and fundamentalist religious intolerance of the type shown by this guy are certainly an impediment to world peace ... :-(

As funny as you may want to sound Doc, you are not. In your mind you find it funny to joke about burning a human being because he doesn't share your thoughts about religion and that puzzles me. Nobody here has called for the burning of Mr. Jones, even jokingly. It only belittles you Doc in my truly honest opinion.

Whatever Jac. It was obviously a joke. You are the one who started the thread offering to do something synonymous with the actions of an "idiot" as you quoted. If this whole thread isn't a joke, then I'm not sure what it is...

What it is Doc, is a reflection of the religious intolerance exhibited by some zealots that live in this world. Sad, but nonetheless true.

Hmmm - perhaps someone should pass out some of those sugary fruit punch drinks.

Hillary Clinton said something wise yesterday - it is regrettable that this is given so much attention.

Read the news. It looks like it's not going to happen after all.
