Well, I came home from work sad today... My Fiance IMed me before I came home and informed me that my brand new Canon 10D had not arrived... Alas, my new Canon backback and high speed CF card and Lens would have to spend one more night alone...
Well my younger sister was driving through town and decided to stop on her way back to her apartment in CT, so when the doorbell rang I was expecting her... NOPE, instead it was the UPS guy at 7:30pm, out in the middle of no where mind you with my box in hand...
So boys and girls, I'd like to give my self a round of applause and force my way into the 10D club, invited or not...
I've played around with the camera for an hour and had to fight the urge giggle like a little school girl.... well OK, maybe I did a little bit...
Did I mention I was excited :)

Now if you captured your "Off screen Expectation" of the delivery with your Sony and won. Would you thank the Sony or the Canon? ;P
Have fun with the new toy. |

Reasons for upgrading if any? Why did you choose the 10D? I think it's good info for others that are looking into a possible new camera.

I'm looking at doing a lot of up close action photography... Other wise my 717 was everything I ever needed for probably a couple years... As far as why I chose the 10D? Well I own a Canon 35mm and I have a couple lenes... But most importatnly I was the most impressed with the 10D and I thought it fit ME the best for what I needed it to do.
Right now all I have are some half-way decent lenses that I had for my 35mm. I'm bidding however on a couple lens ebay that I won't indulge on because THEY ARE MINE, ALL MINE... hehe...
While I've got some 10D people in here maybe you can asnwer me a question? I've got a very small hair like "thing" (technical term) on the inside of my eye piece. It's not on the outside of the thin piece between the mirror and actual eye piece but on the inside. Actualy on the thin screen that projects the info and focus points!
Should I take it back, ghet it cleaned, do it my self... BTW: I really don't want to take it back, it's means I would loose it for another week or so... I'd pay someone to fix it first probably.

Congrats on your new cam. I also just got my 10D last Thursday. Now I just need some time to shoot.........
I bought some lenses too:
Sigma 12-24, Canon 28-135 IS, Sigma 105 macro. I wanted the 50mm f1.8 and the 85mm f1.8, but both of those are few and far between. After that, I'll be looking at a long lens, maybe the Sigma 70-200 f 2.8 or the Canon 70-200L f4 along with the appropriate teleconverter, but that will probably have to wait until next year's bonus.
Some first shots:
Thomas in the backseat
Calvin's new Raincoat
I'm still getting used to the controls, but it seems pretty straightforward so far.

Congratulations, Russell! I bought my 10D last July and the honeymoon isn't over yet. It's a superb camera. I didn't have an investment in lenses before the purchase, so could have gone in several directions. I spent many a day and night studying the reviews and discussions on the Web (primarily dpreview.com) before deciding this was it for me.
The first lens I bouight was the Canon 28-135mm IS. It's a great walk-around. Subsequently, I bought the Sigma 105mm macro, Canon 50mm f/1.8, and Canon 300mm L (the love of my life! [pssst.. don't tell my wife..]). I don't regret my decision for anything.
You can check my profile for the results (..judge the camera/lenses, not the "artist" ;-)).

Personally, if it doesn't affect your photography, don't bother. After all, you've just got the camera, do you really want to part with it for more than a week (Canon servicing *will* take a while)? ..... and also risk some other malfunction when it gets back?
Just my personal opinion....
