I have an old Vivitar Macro MC Auto Zoom 80-200mm f/3.9 1:3.9 Lens. Can/Will this work on my Nikon D80 with an adapter? What will this work with (it came from one of my old film cameras that I don't have anymore)

It should work, if you can find an adapter.

Things you'll encounter:
No AF.
Likely no Focus Confirmation light.
Limited or no in-camera metering.
Mostly likely you'll have to open the lens up to focus and then stop it back down manually to take the shot.

Working with old lenses on new cameras can be fun. And it will definitely slow you down to think about your shot. But, yes, they can be a pain in the bum.

what adapter do I need? I have a Vivitar TX Lens Mount...but I don't think that's what I need...

As 2 of my lens are older and I have to use them manually I don't mind...I then to use them more when I'm working with a tripod and things aren't "moving" about....

MC mount is for older Minolta cameras.

Thing is... MC mount lenses are kind of odd. For the lens to be able to achieve infinity focus on your Nikon your adapter will need corrective glass in it. Such as the one below:

Edit: BTW,the converter is also a 1.4x tele-extender so you'll need to expect the lens to act more like a 112-280mm lens. Without the corrective lens element in it, it becomes an extension tube for extreme macro.
