So i've had this idea for a while and have spent a few hrs today drawing up a game plan for how i want to implement it. i havent done that much coding (none in applescript) and have VERY limited experience with the Automator and with folder actions so if you can offer advice to help with the execution of this idea thatd be GREAT.

my 2 part idea:

1: create a way for every image i put in a given folder to be automatically copied to another specified (constant) folder and resized to a max side length of 800 px.

2: use a symlink to automatically sync that websized portfolio folder with my photo gallery folder on dropbox.

so i have part 2 figured out... thats the easy part. my question is can step one be accomplished with scripting a folder action? if so how would you do it? if it cant be done this way (folder actions) is there another way to do it and how?

finally i know that i can get it to sync with dropbox with a symlink but is there any way that i can get it to automatically upload the photos in that websized folder to flickr??

Thanks so much in advanced for any help! :)

I haven't used it much, but the Automator app should be able to handle it. Google "Mac Automator", you'll find a lot of tutorials and scripts.

Problem solved!

automator folder action:

copy finder items: /PortfolioWEB
Change Type of images: jpg
Scale Images: 800

then symlink /PortfolioWEB to your dropbox/Photos folder
