Have we ever done a re-edit challenge?

It'd be like the "1st Entry" challenge, only it could be any of your photos and it would have to be the same original shot, just edited differently. Maybe an extra rule says that the photo must be noticeably different from the initial entry.

I don't know about you, but I look back on some earlier entries, and I am disgusted to see all the terrible things I did to my shots two years ago.

Good idea?

I don't think we've ever done one exactly like that, no. There are certain problems with making it a voting challenge, since anonymity goes totally out the window.

Not totally... Do you know every DPC users photographs by heart? Do you come even close? Maybe there will be a few giveaways, but I'm assuming a majority of the users haven't memorized a majority of other users challenge entries from years ago...

Here's the thing of it: we all know it's not *just* the processing that wins, right? The old "polish a turd" thing, right? So you can be sure, absolutely sure, that in this challenge, if it happens, people are going to be resurrecting some of their best images and trying to improve them with better processing.

And if THAT's the case, you can be pretty sure the winners in this challenge will come from the higher ranks of their respective previous challenges...

See what I mean now, about anonymity?

Of course, I could be all wet...

That hidden gem comp was kinda like a re-edit challenge I think.

You may not:

*
submit more than one entry per challenge.
*
hold more than one DPChallenge account, ask anyone to vote on your behalf, or link to your entryâs voting page.
*
use the same original image in more than one challenge.

I'm pretty sure this rule that I highlighted makes this challenge suggestion Null and Void. It breaks a single rule that exists in every set of rules.

That's not a problem -- they let you break the "no adding text" rule occasionally.

But I agree with Bear -- I would look for one of my highest ranking photos and work on that, and others would probably do the same. Thus I think that some people would start out with a big advantage.

Except adding text doesn't let anyone know who's photo it is. Many members already can pick "styles" out, let alone a photo that has already been entered.

Looking in the advanced rules: "Any of these rules may be overridden by the âExtra Rulesâ section of the Challenge Details"

Edit: In fact, every ruleset allows overruling of any rule.

Luckily for us Matt is not Langdon. ;) We've had many challenges where the rules were set aside so we could have some fun instead of doing the same old processing and what not.

eta

Yeah, what Niall said. :)

Another extra rule would be to specify which photo to re-edit. Like your 17th submission to DPC. Or an image that placed between 125th and 200th place in your 19th challenge, etc.

so just make it re-edit one of your lowest 10 scoring images ..

or

like the first entry, do a worst entry, "recreate someones worst entry and hope it scores better"
