I just picked up PW II Plus. I have an SB-900 set on Manual at chosen power (let's say, 1/2...?) it seems that no matter what shutter speed I choose, the light coming from the Flash unit...or exposure is the same. So, at 1/2 power the image looks the same at a shutterspeed of 1/60th/sec. or 1/250th/sec. In other words Manual Mode on the Flash unit seems to be rendering a TTL type of result.
Not saying that's exactly a bad thing BUT the other day I was doing a shoot and there was a good deal of ambient light I wanted to keep that kept changing (sun + clouds) and I was changing my shutterspeed to compensate. Is that feature/ability gone?

Shutter speed doesn't effect the exposure when using the flash, the burst is so fast and intense that 1/60 and 1/250 will look the same if the scene is entirely lit from the flash (ie you are not using the flash for fill) The flash "exposure" when set on manual will not change.
If you were say taking a shot and lighting a subject with the flash against say a sunset or something, assuming flash set to manual you'd use the aperture to set the exposure for the subject and then change the shutter speed to set the exposure for the sunset.
Changing the aperture will result in a different exposure when lighting with a fixed power flash burst. |
