Well after doing lots of searching, I found the email addresses to the CEO's of Verizon, Spring, AT&T and T-Mobile and sent off my email. I made sure to CC to the CEO's of Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile and let's hope something good comes out of this. The wife offered to buy me the phone I want outright to shut me up, but that's not something we can really afford to do right now. We have enough on our plate. And if Verizon wouldn't have lied to me, we wouldn't have this problem right now.
Anyway, thanks for all the help and comments DPCers. You guys and gals are AWESOME!

Do you not have consumer protection laws over there?
Here we've got the Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act. One of the conditions is that the item must be fit for the intended purpose. In this case, you were sold a phone which was not fit for purpose (i.e. reading documents). If the retailer/supplier doesn't want to help, then it's off to the small claims court to settle the matter.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I have a Samsung Jet which has the same OS to yours. For photo and video it's great, but for everything else it's terrible. Freezing at odd times, issues with the predictive text, not responding when I'm trying to answer a call, not being able to open attachments, badly designed UI, and a total lack of apps! - I think Samsung have forgotten about our generation of 'smart' phones now they've moved on to Android.
I'd love to get one of the HTC Android phones instead, but I'm stuck in a contract until next year.
Good luck with your quest!

Talk to the manager of the store at which you were told that your phone could do wonders. Whether you talked to the guys at the back counter (the "tech guys," outsourced to Flextronics) or someone in the store with a regular VzW nametag, the manager should be able to take care of your situation. Screw phone support, they're all on the other side of the world and have no say in anything. |

yeah i would talk to the manager of the store.
I can usually get what i want if i am ticked off enough.
talk to the manager, if they don't help, start talking to the customers, sit in the parking lot with a sign. tell them you are dissatisfied and that the store wont stand behind recommendations. if you get kicked out keep coming back..
i did this in toy r us one time (I sure a lot of you know about how bad their return policy is...) I started telling customers that the return policy is crap and to go to target or somewhere else where the return policy is much much better.
i only made it to the second customer going in the door when the manager decided i was for real and fixed my problem. |

I dont know about Verizon, but here in Canada, Telus has this little known call centre called "Loyalty and Retention". Whenever I have a problem that the CSR can't/won't help me with, I use the L and R card. That works almost every time; it's there job to make sure your concerns are dealt with. The other method is the "Can I speak to your boss" approach. If the person you are dealing with won't give you what you need, just speak to their boss. Sometimes they will say that they are the boss, to which I reply, "Are you the CEO of Telus? No, then you have a boss. I would like to speak to them please." Eventually you will get someone on the phone who's pay grade is WAY too high to be dealing with your problem.
On another note, you really cannot beat a Blackberry for business use. Yeah, the Storm had it's problems, but really, what manufacturer hasn't had issues. Blackberry has by far the best and most secure email handling capabilities out there. ESPECIALLY if you get on to a BES type platform. Then the email is beyond AMAZING!
Just my $.02 |

The other option i would try is to call Verizon and talk (as suggested) to a customer retention specialist (ask to speak to one). tell them your problem and all you want is a new phone, if not you drop there service and let it go to collection where you will only pay a fraction of the amount you owe.
When they see you have 5 lines and really Verizon is getting hurt right now my ATT. They may help you out becuase actually dealing with this issue will more than likely keep your business long past your contract.
i know ATT has one year and two contract prices for there phones. they may offer you a version of the one year price while making you sign for two more years. |

I am intrigued by this statement. Secure compared to what?

Well writing an email did the trick! I'm posting this message from my brand new Motorola Droid 2! I got a call from ceo's monkey this morning saying they will give a $200 to our account. Ok cool works for me. Then the manager of the store where this all started and gave me the phone, case, screen protectors, and some thing to hold my phone like a gps unit all for $200. He billed it to our account so the credit we got covered it.
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions that helped all this happen!

Glad that you were able to get it all worked out. :) Here Verizon's towers/actual service, not customer service, are the best. |

I read a couple years ago that a sizable majority of pilots and flight attendants use verizon--reason being the coverage across the US tended to be better and not as spotty as other providers. Verizon turning down the iphone at the beginning may have turned out to be not unlike the record label who rejected Elvis, or the studio exec who waved off Fred Astaire with the note "Can't sing. Can dance a little." The number one complaint of iphone users has been AT&T from the beginning to this day, and a huge part of AT&Ts revenue has been from iphone subscribers. Imagine if Verizon had been first, with better coverage and performance from the start.....
Anyway, glad you got a good result! I'm stuck with AT&T................. |

LOL, it really isn't funny but it is!!
You don't like your service, but you can't leave because you have extra unused minutes, because the service is bad and you don't use your minutes!! Hmm, it's the stinking catch 22, lol.

Actually, the service in the last year and a half has been fine in my area. The first year sucked. Now it works great, so big issues. Nationwide, though, AT&T is still way behind on reliable coverage areas. |

You know, it's probably better this way. Verizon has been doing great all along, and now that users know the alternative (AT&T) is worse, they're likely to give Verizon a boost by buying the iPhone. I have a feeling Verizon would've still gotten some bad publicity for not having a fast enough network or one of the iPhone's problems (e.g. "holding it wrong"). Now, everyone can say "well, it ain't as bad as AT&T!" It's like losing half the potential revenue, but at the same time having 95% less complaints... sure, the bottom line's all that matters, but when you're competing, there are other forces at work.
Regarding broadband speed... the signal's there, but broadband speed is not quite there. It's coming, though... Verizon is officially a GSM carrier and is slowly rolling out 4G (click "The Future is 4G enabled"). I'm thinking I'll get the iPhone 4G for Verizon whenever it comes out...
ETA: I prefer the Droids, but if they stay CDMA-only, I'll take the GSM iPhone any day.

I am with AT&T, and I am using a Android phone called the Captivate ( Samsung Galaxy S). It is amazing! I believe it not only keeps up with the Iphone4---> it blows it away! I am not on an unlimited data plan, but have the phone set to run on wi-fi whenever possible, and I use very little of my alloted data. |
