So weird when people give a 1 and not leave a comment. I mean no photo is worth a 1 right. If someone has put in some effort to take a shot and post it in here, it should be worth atleast a 3. Or is it they think it could be DNMC and throw in a 1. |

At risk of sounding a tad nitpicky, brown ribbon attempts are totally worth a 1 and those who submit them feel delighted with the more 1 votes we get. Of course, there are always a handful (15 in my last brown ribbon winning photo last week) of reverse trolls who score horrid photos a 10.
Nowadays on DPC it is very difficult to get more than 100 1s in voting. If you look at DPCs lowest scoring photo, "My Hand", it received 176 "1" votes. The second lowest all time scoring photo, "XXX" had a truly amazing and possibly record setting 218 "1" votes.
The "1" number on the voting scale is there for a reason. I makes your 5.5 seem so much better than that horrid looking brown ribbon winner! |

Incorrect.
The scale of 1-10 is a full range for photos that "someone has put in some effort to take a shot and post it in here". Simply submitting a photo QUALIFIES it to be judged on the 1-10 scale. Unsubmitted photos cannot (and should not) be judged on that scale.
So entering gets you the right to receive anywhere from a 1 to a 10.
That said, if someone was clearly trying to meet the challenge and may not have the skills yet, then a 3 or 4 seems totally fair. They will either give up or learn from their mistakes. They've seen enough good photos that they can compare their image to it and know where it should be vs. where it is.
However, the folks that skirt the challenge description or deliberately go for the brown deserve all the 1s and 2s they get -- no matter how quality a photo they submitted. |

I just voted - there were some amazing images.
I gave out seventeen 10's (a record for me - but I LOVE minimalism)
I gave out seventeen 9's (no that wasn't planned)
and I gave out fifteen 8's.
